While admiring a rose through her window that was blooming in the winter, Queen Elena pricked her finger on one of its thorns. Three drops of blood fell onto the snow-covered windowsill, and she wished for a child as white as the snow, with lips as red as blood, hair as black as ebony and a heart as strong and defiant as the rose. Soon after that, the Queen gave birth to a baby boy who was as white as snow, lips red as blood, with hair as black as ebony.
