Karan and Achi beyond the mask
Episode 9 of Cherry Magic Thailand has been my favorite episode so far
@grapejuicegay @my-rose-tinted-glasses
@waitmyturtles has got me thinking about the difference between Adachi and Achi's mind reading power revelations (and also insisted I post this so this is for you)
Cherry Magic TH: The Dreaded Big 3 0, The V Card, And L O V E.
crossposting these thoughts from my Twitter lmao and with the caveat that I went into this show knowing nothing and still know nothing about what’s to come: I am really fascinated by the progression of karan and achi’s relationship as they continue to get to know each other better and achi slowly removes the pedestal he has karan on
okay once again time for some cherry magic th thoughts lmao but I'm thinking about the show's emphasis on comfort and how it's really interesting in the context of a character whose main deal (so far) is being in unrequited love with achi
I'm half asleep but ok there are so many small moments in cherry magic th that showcase how karan and achi both exhibit so much kindness and care towards each other, and it's so striking to me especially given that it at least seems like they are only just starting to really get to know each other/become close
I have the longest episode 6 meta post that I need to actually finish asd;fljka;sdlkaf but FIRST I need to immediately talk about the whole memory erasing pen thing
not to AND ANOTHER THING a billionth time al;sjdf;lad but I'm also thinking about the parallels in this episode to earlier episodes, particularly episode 3
thinking about cherry magic th ep 7 and how I'm SO glad the story went this way, even though I admittedly found the karanachi plot of this episode immensely stressful to watch alsd;kfj;aksdlf like it was so so perfect and fitting for them and their arc
there were so many moments in this episode that made me feel overwhelmed at the concept of love and this is maybe a small one in the scheme of all the other extremely beautiful and immense declarations of love in this episode, but this is the one I keep coming back to and it makes me tear up every single time I think about it
thinking about how little we see achi reading karan’s mind in episode 11, despite him still having his powers and what a great narrative choice that was
I keep thinking about how in ep 12 when achi is talking to karan's mom about how he's learned how to take care of karan, he talks about how a way he does that is letting karan do the things that make him happy, and lists hearing karan sing as one of those things
Cherry Magic Thailand just floored me, y’all
Cherry Magic Thailand Episode 2
Okay so I've seen a vibe of dissatisfaction with episode one of Cherry Magic Thai because of the framing of Achi (spoilers and ramble under the cut)
Cherry Magic Thailand - Ep 6
i love how this episode portrayed Karan. ive been loving the whole of this show so far but this was so lifelike
Cherry Magic Thailand is doing so many things so correctly

“I’ll watch Cherry Magic, because that won’t make me cry like the other things I’m behind on will”
Cherry Magic was supposed to be the light and fluffy show, but I'm actually having a lot of feelings about the rooftop scene.
Okay, so I have a lot of feelings about Achi realizing all the little ways that Karan has been taking care of him for years.
This show has always been so kind and honest about the realities of being 30 (and over) and feeling like you're not as grown up as your peers, but also too old to accomplish everything you've dreamed about
i feel like Karan’s tortured/emotional moments this episode (jealousy, possessiveness, a profound feeling of missing out on something, palpable frustration with others getting through his usually very controlled and polite demeanor) stemmed from disappointment in himself for not having made his feelings known - ‘It’s wrong for me to feel this way when there is nothing but a burgeoning friendship between us right now’
I love this scene so much!
i really do feel genuine queerness radiating from the narrative in Cherry Magic Thailand in a way that it might not have in other people's hands
one element of their relationship that i really love is Karan’s very purposeful control and thoughtfulness about physical contact with Achi, which I’m sure is a baseline for Karan anyways but is especially important since he has the knowledge that Achi has never been physically intimate with anyone
I wonder if Karan’s habit of self-deprecating/being hypervigilant of how people perceive or react to homosexuality will be addressed at all in the narrative, but I think its interesting that it continues to show up:
while i understand why some viewers would be puzzled by Achi's quietness, reserved energy, and the way he nearly always lets Karan take the lead - which might make it seem like he isn't invested in the relationship - for me that is actually an element I really like because it makes certain moments hit a lot harder.
So I was thinking further about the issue at the heart of this post regarding how a lot of the audience is put off or puzzled by Achi’s way of conducting himself in relation to Karan, how he seems too reserved, low-energy, or minimally invested in their relationship.
boy there is so much to unpack based on what Karan's sister said to her mom about how Karan was raised.
something that I wish ppl would keep in mind when considering Achi and Karan's relationship is that it's not uncommon for the level of love/devotion to be nonreciprocal in romantic relationships, and that doesn't make it inherently an unsound relationship
i think something that's kind of awesome and remarkable is that even though, judging by what we learned in the final episode, Karan has been conditioned to 'choose' things based on his estimation of what the people who are most important in his life want from him
it's so befuddling when ppl get pressed about other people finding a lot of joy in a piece of media
It's Achi thinking his body is tofu
While watching the latest episode of Cherry Magic, it dawned on me that the show does a wonderful job of using different love languages to make the audience feel the amount of love within the office, both romantic and platonic.
Cherry magic is absolutely about how your own internal thoughts of self worth hurt your relationships with the people around you and how you need to work on yourself.
