my cat is all white except he has exactly two black hairs on his forehead?? what could cause this? idk if it matters, but he's also polydactyl

its the masking! with how white works, it covers all of the "original" genes of the fur, but sometimes it misses a few spots! these are remnants of the "beneath the white fur" as i like to call it.... black based fully white cat!

To get back on this blog properly, I thought I'd introduce my girl, Penny!

Pen is a 9 y/o standard poodle/labrador mix. She has an atypical coat that is more of a hair coat that sheds and also has a growth limit (meaning it will stop growing after a certain point, unlike poodle coats or wool coats). I got her when I was a depressed early 20-something who didn't know as much abt dogs as I do now lol.

She's a black-based recessive red with progressive greying!

The grey in her coat is more obvious when her coat is longer (she is recently shaved in pic 1 and pic 2 is from a few days so it's still growing back out). The white around her face isn't from aging as she's had that since she was around 2/3 years old, it's just part of progressive grey she got from her poodle side!

She might be one of those dreaded doodles but we got lucky with her. She's a stable girl who does well at both the groomer and the vet, despite not being a fan of either. She has some barrier aggression at fences and occasionally on the leash, but we manage it when it rears its head.
