Guilds -still a big wip
“ A guild (...) is an association of artisans and merchants who oversee the practice of their craft/trade in a particular territory.” - Wikipedia.
I count mutliple guilds across the world. Some of them may be more powerful in a region than an other, some only exerces in a few countries, etc.
Globaly, it serves the same purpose : a seal of quality for one’s work. That the worker has been recognized by the guild as trustworthy, etc.
The merchant/trader/artisan guild - the basics, over-used guilds in fantasy. Also I can’t define it ‘cause I suck in understanding economics. Someday, I’ll make some researches. - Their main colors are gold and bronze. Unless I find an interesting metal to replace one of them.
edit : They set prices in the big cities across the world, make sure it’s fair to every part involved in the work. While they do get rich by selling merchandises, they’re not Bezos/Musk rich. They also make sure any seller are in the law : under their own laws (no selling of human beings, war prisoners, or organic body parts for example) and local laws (no drugs if the country said so, etc).
Artisans associated with the guild are assured a good wage, health insurance, and any kind of help if requested.
The adventurer’s / traveler’s guild - in charge of giving adventurer their mission and proper rewards, to make sure the quest givers are not pranking new adventurers, etc. - not really a colour to represent them, I think they’d have a sort of a pin’s, a symbol to attach on you. Maybe an animal ?
edit : Not in every region, only in the more deserted, isolated, etc. Serves as a way to teach passerby/merchants how to cross some dangerous places and how to interact with the local fauna/flora. They also edit a world and local traveler’s handbook with all sorts of information about places. It can be about the usual weather, the beasts you can meet, the trees and food you can find around you, the cities and how to plan your vacations, etc. From tourism to pure exploration, they can help you. At least if you follow their guidelines.
The Black Guild - More secretive, it’s the guild of official assassins, spies and thieves. Can be employed by other guilds, countries, random people, etc, in exchange for information or money. They own a few territories across the world, but have smaller agencies everywhere. They do wear dark colored clothes most of the time, because most of their mission needs to be accomplished at night. They could be daring enough to do it in neon pink... They have a special type of money to trade especially with the merchant guild, and can be recognized with a tatoo of ownership.
edit : The tattoo is a magical tattoo that serves two purpose : to know where you are (shows on an enchanted map/tablet that tracks and records your movement in case we need to check/innocent you), and mostly, to alert the mage in HQ to know you’re dead. Also losing the limb on which the tattoo is a signal of death.
Being a part of the black guild is sort of an automatic out-of-jail card. Except that if you’re found out to not actually be a part of them, you’re dead. They’ll know. And you’ll be hunt down.
hhhhhhhhhh right now they’re the only ones i can think of....
