I actually think it's being done by lesbians themselves because they want more rep. And tbh I can see where they're coming from? If you're a lesbian, especially a butch, Black would have some perspectives that would be very relatable. I modeled some foundational traits of Black from myself, and I'm afab non-binary... Specifically the parts where he was raised to be helpless, and society acting like he's helpless, so he became very competent and survival-focused to compensate. Black being raised afab isn't incidental, but rather, a foundational aspect of his personality that he wants to rectify and move away from.

But, unlike lesbians, the thing with Black is that he doesn't really have the best relationship with women, and because of that, he couldn't see himself as identifying as one of them. It's not that he's misogynistic or anything... It's just that, when you're viewed as a girl, and you have certain 'personality traits', it's actually really easy to be excluded from groups of women, which is what I've personally experienced and so has Black. Black didn't flock to other women, he was too independent, stoic and unfriendly (or at least perceived to be because he's that kind of autistic), and he didn't really understand women at all. It's not like he didn't like them, it's just that they didn't like him. So, it was much easier for him to lean into men and masculinity.

Tbh, my intentions with the RH LI's relationships with gender and sex has always been intended to be very complex. I never see this kind of rep with afab characters because leaning into women always seemed to be the 'good' narrative choice, but a lot of people have actually experienced this kind of exclusion from 'female spaces.' Black has had a bad mother, and he hasn't had good experiences with women being one of them. I think it would be beautiful to consider having this particular trauma heal with a female partner, but he'd be more comfortable being in a more 'masculine' role there than being expected to be 'one of the girls.'

im forgetting the name but that one drink that has "A cure to almost everything" we can buy in the shop in RH will that help or is that just a scam? i bought it because i was curious to see if black could have it but he won't drink it. if this is a spoiler you dont have to say haha!

The panacea? Yes, it has its uses. There is one use of it in-game right now but it's kind of hidden!

But, no, I don't think that can 'cure' Black. You cure sicknesses. Death is not a disease!

I'm assuming it's because he's afab nb?? There are some non-binary people that consider themselves lesbians...

But Black is not that, lol. He leans masc + he also likes men.
