The new Doctor Who Dot and Bubble episode has so many issues. It’s not enough to just use surprise racism as a twist at the end of the episode and expect us all to clap because “racism bad”. If you’re going to bring up how social media and influencer culture upholds white beauty standards and supremacy then *ACTUALLY* talk about it.
It’s insulting to just use it as a twist at the end and in my opinion shows how little black influence there was in this episode. If you want to have a conversation about it then hire black writers! De-centre whiteness in the episode! Show the impacts of their racism! Having half a conversation isn’t helpful to anyone willing to listen and using it as a twist cheapens any point you were attempting to make.
Could even go as far to point out that these white writers using a black actor to get their point across about the black experience which they know nothing about is… questionable at best.
