[PREVIEW] Black Tower: The Raven Conspiracy #1 (August 26, 2026)
writer: Ram V | artist [penciler & inker]: Mike Perkins | colorist: Mike Spicer | cover artist: Mike Perkins | publishing company: Vertigo [DC Comics]
synopsis: Twenty-three-year-old Darren Burroughs out of Audubon, Pennsylvania, is a “gifted” rookie sent under the guise of a diplomatic aide to train with Division Nine — an obscure, outdated, and easily dismissed arm of British intelligence that specializes in dealing with paranormal incidents. In the right sort of spy circles, they’re known by a different, more feared name… Black Tower.
It’s 2026, and in the age of cyber warfare and drone strikes, someone is plotting to steal the head of a giant-king to break a centuries-old ward that has kept invading forces out of Britain. Magic and espionage collide as the Black Tower’s band of misfits, led by the enigmatic Alistair Romeo, delves into a maelstrom of spells and silencers, working against time and in the shadows to fight the esoteric battles bubbling under the surface of our visible wars.
Eisner Award winner Ram V (Detective Comics, The Swamp Thing) and acclaimed artist Mike Perkins (The Swamp Thing, The Bat-Man: First Knight) team up once again to bring you a contemporary spy thriller with the distinct flavor of Vertigo magic…

Athy otakus… they’re just like me fr
A while back I thought about how the Black Tower would function after the Last Battle and came up with some ideas to parallel the White Tower
No man shall choose a discipline until he has earned the sword.
No man shall bond a partner until he has earned the sword and dragon both.
No asha’man shall bond a partner against their will.
Disciplines:
Swordplay (body enhancement weaves)
Battle Magic (deathwheels, fire and lightning)
Architecture(working with the ogier to create buildings with the power)
Metalworking (power wrought weapons, mining and other crafts done with the power. ie quendillar)
Farming (modifying plants, weaving keepings, and using Earth to tend to forests and farmland)
Scholars (studying battle strategies, general-ing, and histories)
The Hidden (cloaking oneself in shadow for special operation missions)
I can’t think of an equivalent three oaths
I'm through Lord Of Chaos and just about to start A Crown of Swords!!!
And I do NOT like Mazri Taim 😑😑 I get the point he serves though. He's Sammael to Rand's Lews Therin. Not in the Wheel turns and rebirth into a new time. But in the direct one will always be better than the other. No matter what Taim does he can't ever achieve what Rand is and has. And I think ghost in Rand's head Lews Therin sees that and that's why he always wants to strike Taim down. He knows what comes from a man who wants to be #1 but will forever be second best.
Also holy fucking shit!!! Dumai's Well!! Like even with some hinting I've seen, I did NOT expect that 🤯 literally 😂 the Asha'man are legit horrifying!

Anyways, trying something different...I dunno how to do clouds. Oh well. Need to stop playing with it anyways.
