Black Vulpine - Veil Nebula
Fancy something a little different? Germany's Black Vulpine navigate a twisting and dark journey into the heart of #stonerrock and #doommetal with their new album Veil Nebula. #metal #rock #doom #review #March #superb
It’s always a treat when music snaps your attention and drags you into its swelling underbelly, as if some misunderstood beast saved you from some unspeakable horror that it itself was originally perceived to be. It brings no harm; instead, its lair is a thing of beauty, cultivated over time, and has been dying to show it off to anyone who did not fear it. The scale of music out there like this…

“Das Stoner-Doom-Trio Dopethrone aus Montréal beehrt uns mit einem seiner rar gesäten Auftritte auf dem europäischen Festland. Dabei treffen sie auf drei der feinsten Bands in der Region, Black Vulpine, Grim Van Doom und Orange Swan. Das verspricht ein vielseitiger Cocktail psychedelisch brutzelnder Riffs zu werden! “ (Perln vor die Säue)

Black Vulpine have been growing together since 2004 when the female-fronted stoner quartet from Dortmund, Germany, started to develop its own sound ranging somewhere between Queens of the Stone Age and Red Fang. The band gained experience playing shows throughout the country, supporting bands like Kylesa and The Vintage Caravan. With a new name and a refined, thicker sound Black Vulpine released a three-song demo in November 2013 on Moment of Collapse Records. Their album “Hidden Places” was released on 11.09.2015 on CD, LP and as digital. The eleven tracks on “Hidden Places” feature heavy stoner guitar riffs spiced with some psychedelic, doom and progressive elements, a powerful and soulful vintage-style voice and drums and bass that kick ass.

Now THIS is something special.
Introducing BLACK VULPINE, a wonderful female-fronted stoner quartet from Dortmund, Germany, which formed in 2004 to create their own sound (which ranges somewhere between Queens of the Stone Age and Red Fang).
I. love. this. band.
After years of playing together, Sarah (vocals/guitar), Daria (guitar), Rüdiger (drums), and Stefan (bass) developed "a refined, thicker sound," releasing a 3-song demo in 2013 (picked up by Moment of Collapse Records who immediately recognized this was no ordinary band). Fast forward to September 11th and we have the debut full-length, titled 'Hidden Places' (2015). I'm just kicking myself that it took a good month for me to discover it!

Now, for some, it may be a bit too "beautiful" if they're used to the charge-ahead vocals of a "traditional" stoner rock band. Perhaps here I, the great Doomer, reveal my softer side, but I can't help but adore the juxtoposition of the heavy and light, sweet and sour. If nothing else, this will give some much needed balance to any playlist that often has the weight of the world on its shoulders (you know the kind I'm talking about - screaming, grunting, roaring - how about some singing in that mix?
Bottom line: the Goate is well-pleased with this very generous offering of 11 songs. Seems the band has been saving up a lot of emotion for the big release. For me, it was love at first listen.
