Jake becoming a dad and having a family is an example of AT whimping out on Telling A Story. Like, I can see where you’re coming from; I might even enjoy the show more if that’s what it did. It’s the crappy middle-ground where they Try to do bigger arcs but put zero effort into them that turns me off.

There’s nothing wrong with stories that don’t advance the main plot (although Steven Universe, for example, does an excellent job making even the “filler” episodes contribute important information in some form). What I *don’t* like is how Adventure time *tries* to do big important stories, but just plays them off the exact same way as their “filler” plots.
Tbh I’m not too big on AT’s “important” arcs, which generally focus on the conventionally attractive young humanoids :P I want to see the stories of Lumpy Space Princess coming to terms with adulthood, of Sweetpea and his adorable animal parents, of BMO’s tumultuous interpretations of life, of Jake’s estranged children finding their places in the world.
I don’t care about the special few. I want to see a whole world.

As an addendum, I actually can't remember any drama in the SU fandom for quite a while. The thing with the suicide threats was a ways back, and while it gets mentioned a lot, I can't remember anything comparable since. Like some other people have said, SU is really diverse and good with representation so a good amount of the complaints about the fans are just coming from people who don't like the facetime that stuff gets.

TBH its best to assume that *any* "fandom" is going to be awful. SU isn't any different in that regard to most things. The fans themselves are really nice and the show has a great message.
