I'm taking a break from tumblr
For about 4-5 years now, tumblr has held a special place in my mind and heart. Following Black femme bloggers has contributed so much to how I think and how I move through the world. But I'm at a point of growth where I have nothing else to learn from them...where I'm allowing their flaws and very human failures to erase all the good they've injected into Black tumblr. It hurt at first, but I'm glad it happened because the whole situation helped me realize I do not want to be, nor should I aim to be, a Black Tumblr Auntie. I don't have the social skills, personality or patience for people that it takes to be one. Writing fiction for the Black rejects (anybody who isn't a cishet male) is why I kept this blog. So I decided to step back for a while and made a solemn vow not to come back until I have a collection of completed stories available for your consumption. This blog helped me navigate my identity as a member of the African Diaspora and as an American. It helped me understand what cultural and religious/spiritual elements I actually have a right to use. It helped me understand the power of femininity and its inherent importance regardless of the body it's connected to. And so much more. While I have dozens of story ideas, what I aim to finish by the end of the summer are two different short story collections with three stories each. One collection is a modern retelling of folk/fairytales and the other is a collection of stories about the fates dabbling in human affairs. All will be centered around femme Black American main characters. My hope is that if yall think my writing is worth supporting, than I can reach out to other rejects and get help writing more diverse characters. That I can find my group of like-minded individuals and artists and we can build together.
