As children, black boys are expected take on the role of the warrior, the machismo, the man. We are told what we do, how we do it, and who we do it with. We are given an even longer list of things not to do. What does it mean to be masculine? Being feminine or a little of both? Now what does it mean to do it while black?

The Variance Project, will be my first physical exhibition, displaying just a few of the different black gay men that I’ve come into contact with these past few months. Capturing their stories and image, I was allowed to hear their views on masculinity and femininity within both them selves and the gay black community around them.
