Jeillo Edwards was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, in 1942.

She became  the first black actress to study at the Guildhall School of Speech and Drama, London. She was possibly the very first black actress to work in British Television. Her credits include memorable appearances in a number of iconic television plays and series, including Dixon of Dock Green, The Professionals, Rumpole of the Bailey, Ab Fab, Red Dwarf, and 7 appearances in The Bill between 1987 and 2000.

She passed away in London, in 2004, aged 61.

Because Racism is a #Global issue. #Windrush #BlackBritons Repost @floacist The psycopaths who know nothing other than to take can't help but remind us all, constantly, just how many liberties they have been taking...just to remind those who may feel free, that they still are, in their mind, the master of the enslaved. They still are as sick as ever. They still are prone to destroy any blessed light they can find. Deportation...well considering we were Black in Briton well before the slave trade even began, maybe we should deport you...the foreigners who came here hundereds of years ago to remove the Hebrew Isralite Kings. Should we...as we remember King James...as Black Britons...should we? That they dare even allow this to become a challenge. I hope it reminds all who have forgotten that the enslavement system has been running, uninterupted...like Rome. Careful of those creature comforts...careful. UK artists using the 'n' word like you own it! They love hearing you call each other that trash. 'Headties' and 'Hairstyles' J.D. ’Okhai Ojeikere (1930-2014) "He travelled across Nigeria with the council and began to document Nigerian culture, beginning a series of photographs documenting Nigerian hairstyles in 1968. Over the course of his life Ojeikere recorded more than a thousand hairstyles, as well as traditional headties.
