Jeillo Edwards was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, in 1942.
She became the first black actress to study at the Guildhall School of Speech and Drama, London. She was possibly the very first black actress to work in British Television. Her credits include memorable appearances in a number of iconic television plays and series, including Dixon of Dock Green, The Professionals, Rumpole of the Bailey, Ab Fab, Red Dwarf, and 7 appearances in The Bill between 1987 and 2000.
She passed away in London, in 2004, aged 61.
