The Rules:
Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Pick out the title that most intrigues you, or interests you, and I’ll post a little snippet of it or tell you something about it!!
I’ve only included stuff I’ve actually started writing, not just plotting, because otherwise we’d be here all day.
Current WIP titles:
Red - Chapter 5
Pattern Against User
Sometimes To Win You Have To Lose

Reading various people’s write-ups of season 7, including @froldgapp‘s post here, I had a thought about the new characters and the Earth-based episodes...
- Who now?: Would rather have those emotional beats than two full episodes of people we’d never met before. I was bored. It didn’t resonate with me and think their story could have been integrated more organically.
I liked the MFE pilots well enough and Lance’s badass sister Veronica even more, but... I wasn’t quite sure what the show was trying to do with them. If it was to establish some new characters for a future spin-off (Vehicle Voltron?) then it fell short for me. There wasn’t enough there for me to really get attached to them as characters and what cool elements there were to their characters weren’t explored or explained in any detail.
My suggested alternative: An episode (or two) focused on the paladin’s families on Earth and their perspectives as events unfold.
You’ve already got the Holts, but there could easily have been more there, especially about how Colleen coped when her whole family (except the dog) disappeared into space.
With Lance and Hunk’s families this would’ve been an opportunity to properly introduce them to us (names please!) and learn about their characters. How did they react to their kids/siblings/cousins/nephews disappearing? Would have been great to see more of them reacting to the messages the Paladins sent home. They could still have introduced us to the MFE fighters, but through Veronica’s eyes, framing the story around her.
Shiro doesn’t have any family mentioned, but they could’ve used Adam. Would have been an opportunity for us to get to know him a bit, learn more about his relationship with Shiro and their work at the Garrison. There could have been some real queer representation *cough*
Also bonus points if they’d shown Krolia and Kolivan rallying the remaining Blades, or Matt with the rebels. Would be nice to know, y’know, anything about the rebels.
What’s your favourite Anna and the apocalypse song?
For me, it’s gotta be Break Away, because that’s the point where I fell in love with AatA back in August. It was quite an anxious month for me and I was so ready to just escape into some really good films. We’d been promised a zombie Christmas musical, and I thought that sounded like fun, but I wasn’t sure if it was actually gonna deliver, if it would actually be any good. Stage Fright a few years back was decidedly underwhelming, or I figure that it must’ve been because I can barely remember it now. AatA was also the last film of the day, so I was pretty tired and in need of something really good to stay up for.
But after hearing Break Away, I was instantly hooked. I was practically singing along already, had already decided that I was definitely buying the soundtrack, that once I got the DVD I was going to be watching this every Christmas. This was the song that I was humming and desperately trying to recall the lyrics to whilst walking back to the hotel that night. And I have to say, when I finally heard it again three months later, I got the exact same chills.
Tell us some more about Sometimes To Win You Have To Lose
Thanks for asking. :)
So this is like a prequel to my Voltron/Pacific Rim fusion fic, We Don’t Have Far To Fall, focused on Shiro and his role in the events that lead to that story. It’s supposed to be about how the losses he experiences - his original co-pilot Sendak, the Holt siblings, his right arm - somehow end up leading to gains in different ways. The brotherly relationship he develops with Keith, and the work that he does to help Keith heal from his trauma, also helps Shiro deal with some of his own issues (particularly with regards to his family) and do a little healing of his own.
I was intending to use the Drift as a framing device, with each scene being a memory that Shiro glimpses there, so I’d have an excuse to write really short scenes (ha!). But I think I made it too exposition-full to properly do that, so now it sits in limbo, partially written. Every so often I re-read it and decide that it’s probably worth finishing. And then I don’t finish it. :p
For the WIP meme here.
@froldgapp replied to your post: The 3 stages of creating an AU backstory for Shiro after watching season 7…
So good! BUT does this mean the lion already knew about shiro pre-kerb? O_O
Thanks! :D And to answer your question... short answer is yes. Longer answer is in this AU, Shiro kind of is the lion, or the form that its quintessence has been ‘reincarnated’ into. Also there was no Kerberos mission, because there was no Earth. Humans just live scattered around the universe, with no explanation, Star Wars style.
I really should write the damn thing (I have a bunch of opening scenes mapped out in my head already) but I’m trying to be good and focus on my WIPs first.
Hi! Here's my question: do you have a Fanfiction account or just ArchiveOfOurOwn?
Hey Anon! I’m guessing you mean Fanfiction.net? No, I don’t have an account there at the moment.Maybe I should create one?
Or if you meant do I have a fanfic blog here on Tumblr…?
Short answer: No
Longer answer: I have a sideblog, @apolloepikourios. It’s mostly being used for collecting references, but I have posted some fanfic there too. However, aside from a few odd bits and pieces there isn’t much there that’s not already up on Ao3.
Tumblr-wise, going forward I think I’m gonna just post everything here, on my main blog, because the way I’ve been doing it is a bit overly complicated, considering I haven’t exactly written a massive amount of fanfic.
