Black Foxes is a character driven novel told through the alternating narratives of Sonya Othare and Cein Maegus as they attempt to navigate an alternate industrial revolution and a culture hostile to magic. While Cein is content with surviving an antiquated royal court, Sonya is looking to carve her niche in a society that wants nothing more than to see her fail. When their first loves turn sour, they are forced to reevaluate their priorities, and in the process form an unexpected bond stronger than either could imagine.
Their story takes place in the nation of Freim, a small water bound nation trying to stay afloat in a magical arms race of revolutionary proportions. Mistakes are made in desperate times by terrified leaders that threaten the freedom and autonomy of mages. Sonya and Cein must sacrifice everything they are to save those they love most from themselves.
