As I presented a poster about these things at Them Micropalaeontological Society AGM today here are just two examples of the 40+ species in the coccolithophore Blackites genus - a calcareous nannofossil that existed from the latest Palaeocene (we think) to the end of the Palaeogene. The two photos show Blackites deflandrei on the left and Blackites morionum on the right. Both are from Tanzanian Middle Eocene samples.

One of my favourite photos taken during the course of my project featuring a Blackites stilus on the left and a pentagonal Braarudosphaera bigelowii. Tanzanian Eocene material again.
All in celebration of the finishing of my final project studying these things, completion of my Masters in Applied and Petroleum Micropalaeontology and achieveing a Distinction in the MSc. Long year but so worth it.
