Trees tell her tales, flowers greet her when she passes by, and grass responds to her touch. No one knows about her powers. Revealing them will make her a witch. They'd burn her at the stake if they found out. So, she stays hidden. Living on the outskirts of town for her own safety. Only comeing to sell herbs in the village. ‘“I’ve been telling you since you were small. You gotta make a place for yourself in this world’… ‘You thought I was playing?’ … ‘You ever consider that maybe you aren’t supposed to fit? People who make history rarely do.”’ Nic Stone, Dear Martin . Dear Martin was the #rbmbookclub April Book Of The Month. AND WE GOT THE COVER REVEAL FOR NIC STONE’S NEXT BOOK TODAY. (... not that I’m excited or anything) . * Dear Martin Review* This book in a word: Captivating. The story is told in part prose and part letter format, and while I don’t often enjoy reading stories told in letters, this method worked so perfectly for this book! Dear Martin is equal parts relevant and important as well as funny and heart-warming. It perfectly tackles really big conversations such as toxic masculinity, privilege, how racism is embedded into society, police brutality, and how racial slurs can impact lives. A definite MUST read: because no matter who you are, it will definitely make you think. . *SPOILERS* HAD to mention - while reading I couldn’t help but compare how Justyce was treated when the police accused him of sexually assaulting his girlfriend (in case you are reading this even if you haven’t read the book --- he didn’t), compared to how Brock Turner was treated in real life, even though he DID in fact, sexually assault a female victim. Society has a LONG way to go, friends. . #book #books #bookstagram #blacklivesmatter #dearmartin ##representationmatters #POC #blackmaincharacter #nicstone @getnicced #bookreview #bookrecommendations @crownpublishing #calgarylibrary #overdrive @calgarylibrary #listeninglibrary @simonschusterca
