Hi friends! I’ve been getting back into studying Japanese. I’m trying to not put too much pressure on that and enjoy the ride. Mostly working on doing small bits of work consistently. I’m putting most of that energy into listening practise because that’s (I think) my biggest weakness when it comes to Japanese.

5 Thing Black Students Should Go Out of Their Way to Participate in at PWI’s
During my time at primarily white institution, I’ve been able to see the lack of representation of color in many areas of campus. I’ve comprised a list of things that I feel black students should try to become a part of, time permitting of course!
1. Housing and Resident Life, Become an RA!
2. Student Government
3. Orientation Assistants
4. Tour Guides
5. University mentoring/tutoring programs
These 5 points on campus are usually the first areas OUR black students have contact with when coming onto campus as a freshmen! We need to let them know that these positions are obtainable, and should be taken seriously! A lot of young Black students do not participate in these activities because they aren’t seemingly “cool” or “interesting”. But these are all positions that MATTER, we can’t expect people who don’t look like us to always have our best interest at heart. We can’t keep letting decision makers and influencers all look the same and expect them to effectively represent the diverse masses. Being an RA, I see that there are a lot of non-black RA’s who have no idea how to effectively communicate with our black residents, and there is only so much “diversity” training they can be put through. Most will never understand, that is one main reason I think it is important to have a lil mo’ color in all departments.
