Blake Summers: character info so far
//I still have no idea if he’ll be a reoccurring muse but I like him so far. I’m gonna put his info here for now before I make anymore changes to my blog. So anyone interested in Blake, here’s what you need to know!
Keep in mind, headcanons may be subject to change as time goes on
Blake Summers was born sometime between 1975-1976. I haven’t entirely decided on a date. As an infant he was warm to the touch and constantly ran fevers, although rarely seemed affected by them. When he was six years old his mother died of cancer. For the next four years his father Alex raised him alone.
Blake never outgrew his unusual health readings and after a point Alex stopped bringing him to traditional doctors. He suspected these might be the early signs of a mutation; sure enough, when Blake was ten years old his powers surfaced.
Blake as a child:
Unlike his father and uncle, Blake’s abilities involve UV light and radiation. He is unable to touch any organism for long without essentially giving them a sunburn: the longer he holds on the more serious it will be. Alex is unaffected (and for a time unaware) of this due to his own mutation. For whatever reason, the kinetic energy absorbs Blake’s power, protecting him.
Apart from burning individuals Blake’s abilities also affect plantlife: drying them out/killing them and in serious situations setting them aflame. They can also boil or evaporate water. While the latter isn’t as serious Blake was a little afraid of his abilities and Alex found that despite his best efforts he couldn’t teach his son the control he needed. For his own safety he decided to bring Blake to the one place he knew might be able to help.
Below you will find a summary of Blake’s history in the Prime Universe:
Blake spent his teenage years at the School for gifted youngsters. His father visited him from time to time but the young Summers resented him a little for leaving him. He became resentful in general, harder on no one more than himself. He started wondering if maybe he was the reason his mother died to begin with: if somehow his abilities triggered cancer in her, given how dangerous the sun can be.
He did manage to learn some control and even found a tangible way to channel and his abilities like a weapon. If he concentrates enough Blake’s powers emerge in a blinding and somewhat unstable purple-white light. He never learned how to prevent himself from burning others. Overtime, Blake fell into a general state of discouraged dissatisfaction and at age eighteen left the School on short notice.
He lives on his own now, disinterested in engaging mutant progression on either side. He stole one of Logan’s motorcycles and it remains his primary means of transportation. From ages 18-22 he bounced from town to town and job to job living out of B&Bs and motels. He isn’t sure what he’s looking for, or if he’s looking for anything at all but it’s easier to search for the unknown than to drown in what you’re familiar with.
Blake hasn’t cut his father out of his life completely but he isn’t going out of his way to keep in touch. He knows his father always did the best he could but just like searching, it’s easier to run away than grow up and embrace your regrets.
Similarly to Rogue Blake always wears long-sleeves, pants and gloves. He doesn’t want to hurt anyone, nor does he want to make them sick...because at the back of his head, he’ll remain haunted by his mother’s death and the not-knowing that came with the cause.
In the alternate (doppelganger) universe it’s possible Alex tried to raise Blake on his own. He remembered the school/haven with more stress than fond memories; the one time he brought his brother there he noticed slivers of that stress remained. Everyone seemed to work well enough together but there was definitely an absence of the familial warmth he’d hoped for. Hell, Raven’s own son had runaway to England: what did that say about this place?
I’m not sure if Alex’s attempts to raise Blake end successfully or if their relationship also blows up...if it does I wonder if Blake, driven by a want of acceptance and to distance himself from his family might fall in with the wrong crowd...
(i.e. I haven’t worked out all the details following Vivian’s escape so I’ve no idea what happens to the Brotherhood past 1980 XD; Getting closer but not yet.)
