Okay, I have a genuine good faith question.

Let me preface this with: I’m not an author. I don’t casually write, and it’s honestly been a hot minute since I’ve sat down to read a novel or listen to an audiobook. But, I don’t fully understand why it’s so frowned upon to describe POC skin tones with food comparisons. When it’s flipped and white skin tones are mockingly compared to Mayo, it feels wrong to me mostly because the colors don’t really match.

Again, I genuinely want to know why this is not okay. It’s not something I do, but I’m having a hard time working out the answer myself. Possibly something to do with objectification? Or seeing POC as like… a consumable good? I’d really like to hear POC thoughts on this ❤️❤️❤️
