Bleach Chapter 542 "The Blade Is Me" Review
Ichigo plummets in his inner world thinking about all his past encounters with "Zangetsu" and his hollow, and now it becomes really evident Kubo put a LOT of planning into this.
I completely forgot about the shadows "Zangetsu" used to save Ichigo during his Kenpachi fight, but now it's unmistakably similar to the shadows Bach uses in modern day. The way he also stopped Ichigo's bleeding during that fight also resembles the "blut" ability. It's stuff like this that makes me love Kubo.
Ichigo decides to stop thinking so hard about the situation with "Zangetsu" and eventually decides that there's no way he's anything but an ally. In fact, he feels so strongly about it that he returns to his consciousness and grabs the actual sword ( which is still being smelted by 100F+ temperatures ) and implements his own reiatsu into it to solidify his will.
The smoke clears after nearly an ocean of water evaporates due to the intense heat and the moment we've all be waiting for arrives.
Out of all the crazy possibilities and theories people had for the new sword appearance...i don't think anyone guessed it would be a dual wield blade. The design is sleek and all black, pretty fitting for Ichigo and that's his recurring color scheme anyway.
I was really worried about the new sword because we just got a new sword for Ichigo in the Fullbring Arc and i didn't imagine the new one would look all that different, but it looks rather distinct while keeping the same general shape and the style is completely unique so it works brilliantly.
After drooling over the awesome design, the insight into the design makes a lot of sense. Ichigo's always been the only shinigami with two spirits inside him, so it makes sense he'd get two swords to embody them, the big sword representing his Inner Hollow while the bowie knife resembles "Zangetsu".
Bowie Knives were used by Germans in WWI and WWII, as if Kubo was trying to make it any less subtle that this is going the be the catalyst of Ichigo's quincy abilities.
He decides both of his spirits will remain Zangetsu to him because they've always been there for him regardless of intentions, which sounds pretty cheesy but is actually very touching ;-;, at least that whole scenario is a whole lot less confusing!
Ichigo gets a nice quote but then we switch back the Ice Palace, it honestly feels as though it's been forever. A bunch of quincy salute his majesty as he announces that he has some news to discuss. Bach and the Boys are back.
As to what this news is, it could be anything. Maybe the second invasion is ready to start ( hopefully not for Soul Society's sake O_o ) or maybe he's introducing Uryu as a comrade. Whatever it is will probably be great, and I highly look forward it.
Pros:
The "Who is Zangetsu" Situation is finally all cleared up.
Ichigo's new sword designs looks sick as hell, and that's only the shikai.
Bach and the Vandenreich are back and ready to stir up trouble!
Cons:
Literally two things happened. This could seriously be covered in less than 5 minutes of anime time.
Final Verdict 8/10 Great
Really Amazing Title Name By the Way

>Bleach 542
OMG IT'S TWIN SWORDS NOW THIS MEANS HE'S TECHNICALLY THE THIRD PERSON IN SOUL SOCIETY TO HAVE TWIN SWORDS BESIDES UKITAKE AND SHUNSUI OMFG AFSDOGIADUFHGDAIU ( I was kinda expecting like him being able to morph his sword into a bow and back or something i guess i was wrong )
