After needing this record for a long time, I finally got a copy! Obscure Boston power-pop band The Tweeds self-released “I Need That Record,” a speedy ode to the joys of record collecting, back in 1981 and it’s sort of like what The Wonders from the old Tom Hanks movie “That Thing You Do” would have recorded if they were from the Eighties instead of the Sixties. It’s a break neck, funny tour through the most famous record shops of the east coast back then, name-checking NYC’s Colony, Waxy Maxy in Washington DC and Nuggets in Boston, plus the late, legendary Bleeker Bob’s gets an entire verse. This is good but now I want to find the original version, which is what I’ve been listening to on MP3 for years — it’s even faster, as is the power-pop way, to the point that it’s utterly manic. I guess I still need that record!
