High West es la primera destilería del estado americano de Utah y la única del mundo que puedes visitar en esquíes. El Double Rye! tiene un añejamiento entre 2 y 7 años y uno de ellos es 95% centeno y 5% cebada, mientras que el otro es 80% centeno y 20% centeno malteado, añejados en barricas nuevas de roble blanco americano y embotellado a 46% de alcohol. . En nariz destaca aromas a canela, nuez moscada, clavo, manzanas horneadas, sidra y un toque suave de menta. . En boca es absolutamente franco, destacando los mismos sabores que la nariz me llevó a pensar, pero también sabores más botánicos, anís y enebro. En el final se encuentran notas de regaliz, miel, naranja, chocolate, canela y eneldo. . TIMAH blended whisky (40% ABV). Yup, the ‘award-winning Malaysian whisky’. . Nose: Sharp grassy note typical of young malts, sweet fruitiness, hint of peat. Palate: Light grassiness in front, bright green fruits in the middle, just a hint of lingering oeat in the background. Finish: Short, sweet, sharp, slight smoke. Nothing else. Summary: Well, based on what I can tell from one dram, it’s definitely a blend of Scotch. I couldn’t detect any artificial notes of neutral spirits or any hint of molasses, so that’s that. And I doubt anything distilled in Malaysia can reach that sort of flavour profile. It’s an easy dram, typical of blends made with young Scotch whiskies. Easy-drinking, nothing too soectacular. At RM190, probably quite good value. That being said, my main concern about this whisky is: if it actually IS a blend of Scotch whiskies, why say it’s ‘Distilled in Malaysia’? They definitely can’t call it a blend of Scotch whiskies, but just saying “Blended and bottled in Malaysia” would have been enough.
