TIMAH blended whisky (40% ABV). Yup, the ‘award-winning Malaysian whisky’. . Nose: Sharp grassy note typical of young malts, sweet fruitiness, hint of peat. Palate: Light grassiness in front, bright green fruits in the middle, just a hint of lingering oeat in the background. Finish: Short, sweet, sharp, slight smoke. Nothing else. Summary: Well, based on what I can tell from one dram, it’s definitely a blend of Scotch. I couldn’t detect any artificial notes of neutral spirits or any hint of molasses, so that’s that. And I doubt anything distilled in Malaysia can reach that sort of flavour profile. It’s an easy dram, typical of blends made with young Scotch whiskies. Easy-drinking, nothing too soectacular. At RM190, probably quite good value. That being said, my main concern about this whisky is: if it actually IS a blend of Scotch whiskies, why say it’s ‘Distilled in Malaysia’? They definitely can’t call it a blend of Scotch whiskies, but just saying “Blended and bottled in Malaysia” would have been enough.
