How The Easter Bunny Treated Me (totally Blind)
Hey Everyone, thought since it was Easter I would drop in and give some advice to parents and friends of blind people on how the Easter Bunny could be silly and visit them.
When I was younger, my parents would stretch long pieces of twine around so I could follow the twine or rope whichever to the nearest Easter egg.
When I got older they got more technical and used an embosser to print out a list of Scavenger Hunt clues and riddles for where the chocolates were hidden.
They also hid Easter eggs just in one room and by then I knew all the familiar places to look so they challenged me to use my search grid patterns to look for the Easter eggs with my fingers.
Easter egg hunting can definitely be stimulating and useful for the blind child, don't leave them out of traditions, change traditions learn and laugh together.
Eat all the chocolate.]

Students from Temple Emanuel of Newton's Makor class came to the Carroll Center for the Blind to teach our residential clients about Passover. During an inclusive, interfaith Seder featuring a braille Haggadah, we learned about different Jewish traditions, foods and songs. Happy Passover!”

Shakaste was a guest character on Critical Role campaign 2, episode 7. He has a magical bird as a service animal.
Blindness is a symptom, not a condition.
So I have a rant.
I’ve noticed, with a lot of blind fictional characters, the writers just say they were ‘blind from birth’ which is such a copout. It’s like saying that your nose is running. No reason given- could be allergies, could be a cold, could be that you ate something super spicy.
Eye conditions that cause blindness and visual impairment (only something like 8 percent of legally blind people are completely blind) are varied and they have different effects and other symptoms. Not everyone who is blind ‘looks blind’ or has the clouded cornea that traditionally signals that a character is blind. The problem can be in the front of the eye, but it can also be in the optic nerves or the brain.
Your character could have Albinism, Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, Retinopathy of Prematurity , Cataracts, Corneal Disease, Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular degeneration, a detached retina, I’m sure I’m missing some. Each of these things affects the eye differently, and come with other symptoms.
Blind representation is so important, but so is doing some research as to why. This isn’t just a problem with OCs or fanfiction, this is a problem I see with canon blind characters and it’s so frustrating.
VISUALLY IMPAIRED CHARACTER OF THE DAY:
Höðr , Norse Mythology

NOTE: I hope this does not disrespect any Norse Pagans, I do not intend to say your gods are not real or fictional.
Hodr was a Norse god who is blind.
VISUALLY IMPAIRED CHARACTER OF THE DAY:
Kanan Jarrus , Star Wars Rebels

From @aspiringwarriorlibrarian ‘s submission (thank you!!!) Kanan Jarrus, another character from Star Wars but from the animated show Star Wars Rebels. He was blinded in the second season finale by a lightsaber and while the Force helps him get around and fight he's still blind. One thing I noted is that he tends to move around with one hand sensing the ground, kinda like a cane and other characters describe things to him.
