        she’s been  –––––  avoiding clint.  that’s probably the right word.  partially because her body still hurts something fierce,  doesn’t feel like it’s quite her own   ( and she’s not sure if it’ll ever get back to feeling like her own.  )   and making it more than a mile or so outside of her own apartment has been a struggle  .  .  .   but also because she’s  hurting  and it’s partially because of clint.  and how’s she supposed to make it clear that she’s  happy  to not be dead,  but at the same time she’s still  hurting  ?    how’s she supposed to be able to make that clear to him,  let alone coming to grips with it herself  ? 

                   “  –––––––––––––  hi.  ”

       so here she is,  in a pair of yoga pants she’s got rolled up to mid calf like it’s some kinda fashion choice   (  it’s not ––  she’d grown a full three inches in the last week and just hasn’t had the energy to go shopping.  )     and a sweatshirt she’d stolen from clint years ago    (  because it’s big enough to fit her,  and she can fit her stacks of hot water bottles and heating pads underneath it when need be  –––  which has actually been more than expected.  )    leaned against the door frame to let the man himself pass by into her apartment.        “  shoulda called.  i might’ve showered if i’d known there was gonna be company.  ”

        SOFTLY SPOKEN -- the Captain handed Barton one of his signature ‘number 1# avenger’ mugs that he had been gifted, in it swirled dark hot chocolate; a reprieve from the cold. At that moment Steve sat at the counter, staring at Clint with the utmost concern.

   he’s slathered passion fruit jam all over a slice of toast. it’s this close to his mouth when he catches the look clint is shooting over at him. 

   what does a man have to do to eat a slice of toast in peace around here? 

   “what’re you doin’ looking at me like that, barton?”

“okay, so, like....” he trails off, unsure of how exactly he’s supposed to phrase something like this. sam smooths his hands down his jeans and feels a little sick to his stomach. to say that he’s not afraid of being laughed out of here would be a lie. 

“alright. so, you know, i’ve been sober for a while now, but i don’t have, like     sponsor or whatever? i know we’ve got different problems and shit, but i was just wondering if you’d be my sponsor? or whatever.”

Harold had already gone to work, and Edith was left to get the boys up and ready for school. It was one of her favorite parts of the day. When she had the house and her boys all to herself. Normally they were easy enough to get up and going, but she’d called for Clint twice already and he was still in bed when she pushed the door open to check on him. 

Coming into his room, she settled on the edge of his bed and smoothed a hand through his hair. “You going to be getting up anytime today?” she teased lightly. “What’s got you stuck to the bed?”
