World's first blockchain smartphone Finney to be available for purchase in Bangladesh
As per recent reports, the world’s first blockchain enabled smartphone, Finney, will be available for purchase in Bangladesh from October onwards. The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission had already approved the phone for import in August.
Smartphone ownership in Bangladesh has grown exponentially over the years. Global research firm GSMA Intelligence, predicts that by 2025, 75% of the population (138 million) will have smartphones, while 41% (73 million) will be mobile internet subscribers.
With cheaper smartphones launching in the market, urban citizens of Bangladesh have been purchasing more smartphones. However, Finney is more of a high end smartphone. It was launched last year at a price of $999, and the Samsung Galaxy S10 is currently available in the Bangladeshi market at $894.
Following a $157.8 million ICO round in 2017, Finney was developed by Switzerland-based Sirin Labs. It is equipped with a built-in cold storage wallet, secured communications and a decentralized application ecosystem.
“Before the Finney, you needed a ledger, you needed a computer, you needed wallet software and then you needed to go to an exchange, and then you could convert. The Finney does all of this in one phone.”, said Sirin Labs’ co-founder and co-CEO, Moshe Hogeg.
