Why nothing makes you happy:
Everything feels like its in greyscale now and I think I know why. Just 10 yrs ago we werent glued to our phones. No, Im not saying your parents are right about the problem being you always on your phone but the phones are definitely part of it. I still have my old laptop and when i grabbed today my brain was flooded with old memories of the excitement I used to fill everytime I went to use it. Back then we used social media to announce parties, meet new people, and find out when our favorite bands were playing. Now we get assaulted with endless feeds, news, and useless facts that dont change anything or benefit us. We are being polarized and divided daily and we arent any happier for it and we dont know why. When we were kids we were sold the idea that more tech = more happiness. We all remember shows like Jimmy Neutron, Dexters Laboratory, and (for the older generations) The Jetsons and how convinient having extra futuristic tech for them was. Jimmy could self engineer weapons of mass destruction for purposes of saving the world, Dexter used tech to both improve his life and save the world, and The Jetsons showed us how awesome tech could save us not just time but problems. The problem with todays tech boom however is how its been implemented to steal not just our time and attention but our happiness. Tech bros have engineered tech to be addictive and the only source of dopamine (due to its addiction). If you arent sure what I mean, google the study done with rats who were given a dopamine button; In short, the rats became unmotivated and depressed when they had unlimited access to dopamine. How this all connects? Well, social media gives us dopamine hits. Can you guess how this affects your ability to feel happy about the little things in life? You guessed it, it tanks your ability to experience dopamine hits from things you would encounter in everyday. Im not sure what the solution to this problem is. I think the solution is quitting feed platforms but also you cant ignore all forms of communication either or else you risk losing connections with friends, family and work. I think we all just want to feel something again, agreed? I think a good online detox is in order. It would be good for you and me to obstain from doom scrolling and feeds until our dopamine receptors can reset and we can experience joy in the small things. I for one am tired of hearing what everyone else has to say all the time. Im tired of my life feeling like its all in grayscale. If you are too then consider quitting doom scrolling for a while, and going back to the things that used to make you happy. 9.26.25 @5:46pm
