I feel that the collaboration between us Interior Design students with 3D Design students was a good combination for this project. Working with the 3D Design students has brought me many opportunities to widen my knowledge and understanding of the nature of making furniture. Working with external disciplines as clients has taught me that clients have certain requirements that we have addire to and that presenting them with options can help inform your decisions for the final design. It has also shown me that not all external professionals are unapproachable, if you work with them, they can help and progress your development within your field. This has changed the way I work by having a slight pinpoint in the back of my mind when designing spaces that will make me think of the possiblity of my design and whether it is realistic to be built in the real outside world beyond University without compromising on atmosphere.
I found it at first rather difficult to adjust from being organised and structured with my workload to letting the nature of the project override my organised nature. I feel as if I have learnt to develop my ideas and designs and let the fluidity of the process of development of the project make its course. The challenge of guiding myself throughout this project was satisfying to know that the outcome would hopefully and eventually become an actual product within the city of Manchester and it will showcase all of my hardwork.
I have had plenty of experiences throughout this project working with MIF and Ferrious. Them being connecting and producing professional relationships with the companies and creatives within both of our industries of both 3D and Interior Design. Also how to communicate and reflect upon their opinions that they give us during the Dragons Den presentation, thinking on my feet when they asked us questions was also a challenge that I overcome. Ive learnt many new skills also from the 3D students within my group, trying to figure out how things are connected, made and put together. Looking back and thinking that we have produced an item of beauty for a international festival from upcycled second hand furniture also gives me pride in all the hardwork that we have put into this project. The quick two week mini projects within this Unit X has also given me the strength and the knowledge to help me make detailed judgement decisions on the go.
Getting different items of completely different styles and shapes, trying to configure them to create an item of both functionality and design has also been a hurdle that I have had to come across. Thinking of objects in another light and creating another occupation for it has also been a challenge, not thinking of the space in which it will occupy as it will occupy many spaces and designing the piece with no space in mind has also been challenging.
Working collaboratively and cohesively as a group has been rather difficult in certain circumstances. Sometimes getting along and getting together all the time to discuss our thoughts can be difficult and trying to move onto the next development can also be the same in the way that you are wanting to keep everyone happy and make sure everyone has their opinion thought of and discussed.
Future collaborations can be thought out more rigourously and hopefully work out more efficiently next time. I feel that not all of my group had full participation in the work we have produced and I could have pushed myself within my own field next time although with the skills I have learnt within this project I feel it can be put aside the doubt of progression. I feel that all collaborations can widen your thoughts, feelings and pursuits within a project. Can widen your eyes to the infinate possibilities a collaboration can offer and the opportunities that will be within reach with a certain degree of performance and progression within our own fields.
Pitching to any audience has its downfalls, trying to create a piece of work that is inparticular targeted to the desired audience is difficult. Trying to pitch an idea with just visuals will definitely take time to master although I think I have learnt a few skills about how to do this during this Unit X project. I have learnt to keep the pitch simple and to the point as the audience will get bored easily by wading through lots of little extras. Visuals hold the key to any pitch as the audience can clearly see your ideas in perspective and can imagine themselves within any given space. I feel as if I have presented outcomes to an informed audience in an appropriate format throughout Unit X and although not all with confidence as nerves have come over me, I have learnt from all experiences within this Unit X project that I can pursue and progress with in the future.
All of my work can be displayed upon my blog and most of the posts have explainations with them to describe what is in the post. Every post for this MIF UNIT X project has been tagged with #MIF and so you can search my work as a whole unit if you wish.
All of my posts are tagged with #Blog Post so you can quickly and easily search my blog posts from all of my posts. Also I have tagged all of blog posts with their each individual numbers too so;
