" oh, you know. just crumbling under the weight of a couple thousand MODERN problems. you'd think i've never given a thought to consequence. "
FLAVOUR OF THE MONTH by fizzy blood
"Why didn't you say anything?"
Robert knows she means well by her comment but it does feel a bit like salt on a fresh wound. She doesn't know about all of his health issues because he didn't tell her. He had checked 'chose not to disclose' on his hiring paperwork, afraid that they SDN wouldn't hire him otherwise. But now he's worked himself way past his limit and needs a day off. He also needs some accommodations put in place. Robert rolls his pant leg up so he can more easily adjust his knee braces underneath. The material is starting to chafe against his dry skin but his knees are so unstable right now he can't take it off. It's a lose-lose situation, really. "It's not normally this bad." His pain level wavers back and forth. "The cold makes it worse. It'll sort itself out."
Sender: @blondebl4zer !! Prompt: "I swear I’ve never done that before."
“ Okay. I'm a little impressed with that innocent expression you're sporting right now. How long did it take you to perfect that? ”
“ I'm just assuming you're lying, by the way. Because there is almost a 98% correlation between the times people say that exact phrase and the times they're lying. ” His source? Trust me bro, I'm a scientist. “ How many times have you actually done this before? ”
@blondeblazher says: " do you believe people can change? "
" short answer? yes. LONG ANSWER? it's complicated. " robert sometimes has a cryptid way of speaking until he further elaborates, sipping carefully at his freshly-brewed cup of coffee. he feels jet-lagged, sleepy. it takes a beat for him to remember to continue.
" . . . sorry. what i mean is, everyone is capable of change to a certain extent. thing is, no two people are exactly the same. there are people who have experienced things, have been traumatized or broken, who have been around other people that inhibit their ability to change. there's an INFITITE amount of scenarios, emotions, and interactions to consider. people that are a product of their environment, or the way that they're raised. none of it is really set in stone. "
he leans forward and sets his cup on her desk, now half-drained. on top of a coaster, of course.
" for someone to change, they have to want to change. but if the world had disappointed them a hundred times over and shows no signs of letting up, it's probably something they can't even BEGIN to picture. cause why would they change themselves, if nothing ever changes around them? "
“ you okay? “
this reply contains spoilers for episode 8!
“ this is so embarrassing... “
"Considering the fact the literal first day I met you I accidentally spit alcohol into your mouth, I think we've both been through far worse." Robert replies with a soft chuckle. The whole spitting mishap is funny now that it is nothing but a memory. "I've got a spare shirt in my locker if you want to use it to hide the stain. You could do the trick where you tie it around your waist. Or you could ask to borrow a shirt from Royd and turn it into a shirt-dress sort of outfit."
