Robert knows she means well by her comment but it does feel a bit like salt on a fresh wound. She doesn't know about all of his health issues because he didn't tell her. He had checked 'chose not to disclose' on his hiring paperwork, afraid that they SDN wouldn't hire him otherwise. But now he's worked himself way past his limit and needs a day off. He also needs some accommodations put in place. Robert rolls his pant leg up so he can more easily adjust his knee braces underneath. The material is starting to chafe against his dry skin but his knees are so unstable right now he can't take it off. It's a lose-lose situation, really. "It's not normally this bad." His pain level wavers back and forth. "The cold makes it worse. It'll sort itself out."

It's a coward's move, purposefully avoiding her gaze as she asks about his well being. There's no use in lying to her. She can read him like a book, every twitch of brow and anxious wringing of hands just a sentence waiting to be read by her. Currently his hands are folded in his lap, clasped together to keep them steady. It's just a day after the fight with Shroud, the day after he killed Shroud and his first day of suspension. Although he knows it will likely be ruled both justified and self defense he can't help but feel uneasy. "I'm not proud of myself for killing him. And I didn't kill him for my dad. Or because of Beef. I killed him because he was dangerous. He practically started a cult with those augments of his. And he was already given a second chance and he blew it. Not to mention he risked his own health and the health of all of his followers by picking the wrong astropulse. And don't forget the fact he was tearing apart the whole county as a means of trying to find the astropulse..."

Knees curl to rest on the edge of his chair, allowing himself to curl his arms around his knees. Face becomes half hidden as he rests his cheek against his knees. "I think I did the right thing. But killing Shroud scared me because..." he pauses to nervously swallow. "Because it felt good to kill him."

The whole spitting mishap is funny now that it is nothing but a memory. "I've got a spare shirt in my locker if you want to use it to hide the stain. You could do the trick where you tie it around your waist. Or you could ask to borrow a shirt from Royd and turn it into a shirt-dress sort of outfit."
