This might turn into a rant, so be warned. I've been swamped in school work lately and the more it stresses me out the more I start asking myself 'What the heck am I doing with my life??'. But in all seriousness though: We go to school for the first quarter of our life to be able to find a 'decent' job. Then the next 40 years, you work your ass off to pay the bills, keep a house, a car and what not. The more money the better, because we just love to impress others with it. Then when you are on the verge of a burnout - heck maybe even on the verge of your third burnout- you finally get to enjoy life again. It's called retirement. Why would anyone wait 65 years to enjoy their life? Why do we spend most part of our days/weeks/lives working a job we don't like to buy stuff in order to impress people - people we don't even like? Because let's be honest, I don't feel the need to impress my friends with that new car I bought or that big house that's way out of my budget. True friends don't care about your bling. But that's besides the point. Why do we spend so much time working a job that stresses us out and leaves us depleted at the end of the day? And why do we allow ourselves to repeat that pattern for 40 years? Here's a possible answer: fear. It's funny how everything always comes down to fear. Somehow it has been programmed into our mind that you need a 9-to-5 job to make a living. Ok, let's do a little exercise: think of all the influential and inspirational people on this planet. Mine are: Oprah Winfrey, Anthony Robbins, Steve Jobs, Paulo Coelho, Tara Stiles, ... Notice any common dominator? They're all living their life out of passion for what they do. They don't have a 9-to-5 job, yet they make a living (probably a nice one as well). They all took a risk, and followed their dreams, however crazy they may seem. Now you might think: Ok, but we're talking Oprah here. No way I can beat that?? Yeah? What if Oprah had that same thought and decided not to go after her passions? Catch my drift? I don't want to spend this gorgeous life of mine working on someone else's dream (CEO of some big corporation, that only cares about sales). For all we know, there's no life after this one. There's absolutely no proof. So why live your life like you've got a 'no results, money back guarantee'? You don't. You have got this one life. I want to enjoy every freaking minute of it for as long as it lasts. I'd rather work a job I absolutely love and make minimum wage than to work a job with a kick-ass salary that drains the life out of me. But, maybe that's just me. :) What do you guys think about the 9-to-5 system? I'd love to hear your opinion on it! ♡
My blog got a face lift! :p Check it out and let me know what you think of it! <3
