What are your thoughts on the new slogan from the conservatives, "Strong, proud, free"? I, personally, don't get why they felt the need to censor the information about it. Also... I feel like it's got a bit of an eerie vibe. Somehow, it doesn't sound reassuring at all. Sounds more like propaganda than anything else.
To me it comes across as appealing to Nationalism, as those words are associated with Canada’s anthem. The conservatives have also appealed to Nationalism and have made suggestions that if you’re not with them you’re against Canada. =/
They’ve also used the same tagline for some of the war of 1812 ads previously so they’re linking something that isn’t supposed to be partisan with something that is. That same article also points out that this Canada day celebrations will be built around the Proud, Strong, Free slogan as well, which will further ingrain the slogan with national pride.
Its really a continuation of what the Conservatives have been doing lately, creating a grey area where you’re not sure if the government is advertising something for information purposes or for partisan purposes. That line is getting very, very blurry. I would call it propaganda at this point.
