My first AO3 birthday!

If someone 18 months ago had told me "you are going to write fanfiction, in English", I would have burst into laughter. Seriously. I had already started to read fics at the time, but writing them, and in another language.... no way.

Well, life is - as you know- full of surprises. Here I am, one year after my first published fic on ao3, with a handful of them, two betas, a coauthor, two translations ... and a bunch of online friends!

I will never be a good writer, a prolific writer, a master of the English language... but it is fun. Fun to discuss how to write things, fun to push youngsters who feel not so confident to try (because if I did it, everyone can do it), fun to enjoy kudos, fun to reply to comments.

So thanks to everyone in the fanfic community. It's joyful, relaxing, and it helps in a stressful chaotic real life.

Mystrade Holiday 2018?

Heyyyy Blu Doc. So I know the calendar isn’t happening this year, and I saw talk about a collection or a tag or something? Idk I’m not well versed in this kinda stuff, but does such a thing exist? If so, what is it/how do I file this correctly so that people can find my fic?

Since a few of us have started up/resurrected Dreamwidth journals I noticed (along with @anglofile) that there was no specific Mystrade community there.

So there is now :) - mystradefans

Feel free to join if you’re over there. I’ve made it an open community and I plan on being very hands off, I just thought there should be a Mystrade comm for folks to publicise fics etc.!

Guys... Mystrade Reddit?

Absolutely all credit goes to @vulpesmellifera for this thought - I just want to circulate it. ❤️ There’s an r/Mystrade community on Reddit already. It’s been untouched for a long time and there’s a good chance the mods have moved on, but I think it’s a possibility.

Pros:

NSFW content is fine.

Capable of handling a large amount of traffic (so no tech issues like we've been having with Pillowfort).

Will work great for roleplay, discussions, sharing ficlets, links and chatting.

Fan art can also be posted there.

Community is topic-focused so no scrolling through lots of non-Mystrade posts if you just want to get to the content.

At the same time, having a Reddit account means access to other communities of interest. (I am now three months deep into r/AnimalsBeingDerps.)

Reddit is unlikely to fold any time soon.

It’s a simple site to use and posting/commenting is easy.

There’s a mobile app with notifications (which is a downside right now to Dreamwidth and Pillowfort).

Does anyone have thoughts?

Basically, I’m now there for the hilarious animal videos. I’d happily also be there for the Mystrade.

Long post warning. Apologies...

If I’ve been annoyingly present in your newsfeed in the last couple of days. I’ve just worked my way back to reblog the likes I’ve accumulated so they’ll save on the program I’m using to preserve my blog.

I haven’t reblogged everything, mainly visual stuff, but it was an interesting walk down memory lane. I found incredible art, updates for fics, conversations that lead to one-shots and silly drabble, birthday wishes, people asking for love and kind thoughts and forgiveness after RL and illness.

I found conversations about Iceland, zucchini pasta, the exact dimensions of Lestrade’s cock and the placement of the tattoo he bears of Mycroft’s signature. Discussion of the exact nature of the Mystrade marriage, the origin of the term BLU DOC and exactly why BC is so attractive were highlights.

Names flowed past, some now very familiar, others that made me think, ‘I wonder where you’ve gone - I hope you’re okay.’

Like everything this week it’s made me emotional, retrospective and quite melancholy as I think to myself, “I know it won’t be the SAME anywhere else, but I hope we preserve this.”

Not the blogs. The support. The uplifting of each other’s fics, art and ideas. The WIP months, the Challenges, the sharing of wins (houses bought, stories finished, bosses silenced, exams passed) and losses (illnesses, loved ones passing away, long working days that leave us with no space for writing). The completely silly conversations that veer wildly from the OP’s intention.

The main theme, through all the ups and downs was love. Not of two wonderful, flawed, damaged, sometimes insecure men (though that was there), or of a bunch of wives and their husband (who remembers that?), but of a group of people from all over the world who don’t need names, gender or sexual identities to bond more closely than some blood relations. 

Almost none of the ‘things I know about people’ IRL applies to many of you reading this, but the ‘things people know about me’ IRL pales in comparison to what I share here.

What I feel comfortable and loved and supported in sharing here.

Okay, it’s late and I’m exhausted. I shouldn’t be left in charge of my emotions when I’m like this (I’m sure that’s a paraphrase of someone’s tag once), but...
