This is a poster I illustrated/designed for ActionFest (the film festival with a body count!). They will be handprinted at my letterpress studio, Blue Barnhouse.  The images on this poster were taken from stills of legendary stuntman Mickey Gilbert (Ben Hur, Wild Bunch) who will be receiving a life time achievement award at this years event. This poster was all drawn using a Cintiq Wacom tablet.  

Below are the stills I worked from.  The first one was a taken from a very long pan down a steep cliff, I stacked 5 stills to get all of the action in one image.  The second is taken from fall guy. Any guess on the third still? The last is Mickey doing a bronco ride.

Blue Barnhouse

I visited a small card shop here in Iowa City today. Throw a few letterpresses in it and it's essentially the shop I want to own one day but that is not the point of this post!

They had cards from all different companies, mostly letterpressed. A few of the cards from one group jumped out at me, so now I'm featuring them here.

Blue Barnhouse is a letterpress studio and stationary store located in Ashville, North Carolina. Here's what they say about themselves..

Strangely enough, Blue Barnhouse came out of a love of literature and magazine production. Wanting to steer away from the standard mass-produced fare so common to the publishing industry, we joined the bookbinding and letterpress community at the San Francisco Center for the Book and learned the beauty of doing things the old fashioned way. Our handbound magazine, Em Literary, was met with rabid enthusiasm by the literary underground, and the rest, as they say, is history.
