“What you’re going to do is kill him—”

“I’m going to what?” Kelly’s voice is a desperate whisper.

“Listen to me, Shiori,” Blue answered back, her voice was just as quiet. She had a gun held to the side of Kelly’s head. The way Kelly tensed up at the drop of her name was visible. “Either you kill him or I kill him.”

Kelly doesn’t move for a long time. No more than a minute, really. But watching Murasaki just lay there, vulnerable, weak, asleep, made it feel so much longer. It wouldn’t be hard to do it. To finish him off. To deal the blow and let him bleed out in bed.

The thought nauseates her.

The notion of letting Blue do it nauseates her more.

So, she breathes in, and speaks, “I’ll do it.”

Cool metal is dropped from the side of her head. Her muscles loosen up just a bit.

Still, she stares at her brother, frozen.

“Can you not watch?” It’s a simple plea. One she expects to be disrespected. The knife is in shaky hands. She’d understand if Blue wants to watch, to make sure she gets the job done.

But Blue leaves.

Her threat rests heavy in Kelly’s ears.

She can’t let Blue have the smug enjoyment of knowing that Kelly couldn’t do it. She can’t let Blue be the one that puts her brother down like a dog, aware she’d do so in a cruel manner. She won’t let it happen. The guilt will suffocate her either way.

At least like this, sharp edge of a knife pressed to his neck, she can lie to herself and say she let him go out peacefully.
