Tokimitsu...
let my baby reo REST
Hi, rory!
I just read your Reo analysis on bpd and let me tell you it was awesome. The disorder was very well explained and laid out for someone who's never heard of it to understand and every point you made checked out with the impression I got from Reo while reading the manga. Now I'm convinced that he does indeed suffer from untreated bpd.
Now, onto the actual question.
With the latest bllk chapters focusing so much on nagireo, specially with Nagi's now more obvious attachment to Reo and how he reacted to being locked off, could you do an analysis on Nagi's character?
I know you said you're no psychologist but I'd love to know your opinion on him and what just happened in blue lock.
Thanks.
I LITERALLY WAS NOT CAUGHT UP ON BLUE LOCK AND I JUST READ IT BC OF THIS ASK AND I-
THE WAY THERE ARENT EVEN WORDS RN FOR ME TO DESCRIBE HOW I'M FEELING NOT TO BE DRAMATIC OR ANYTHING BUT I AM LIKE LEVITATING OFF THE GROUND EMITTING BEAMS OF LIGHT
EXPECT AN UPDATE TO MY ANALYSIS RIGHT WHERE I LEFT OFF AND A WHOLE DAMN 'NOTHER ONE ABOUT NAGI HE'S NO LONGER SAFE HE'S GETTING ANALYZED TOO
Did kaneshiro’s house catch on fire while writing Reo’s character? That’s the best explanation I can come up for this shit
Why must he suffer so? When will it end? You’re gonna run out of nails to put in the coffin; when will the final one be delivered?
We must make this experience so impactful that if he one day leaves then he will be permanently scarred.
“Hey I just wanted to let you know, your existence caused him to end up like this.”
I get how he’s being like “don’t get mad you helped this become reality” but also like, it’s not under his control? Don’t give this child who very obviously blames himself for everything (ik bro watches the cameras and has seen at least one of the many Reo crash outs) more reasons to indulge in self loathing. I understand Ego has no chill and has deadass electrocuted people in the past but come onnnnn. On live television? Live television? Live television? LIVE TELEVISION? LIVE TELEVISION? Was the loss not humiliating enough?
I'm (not) fine
I've waited for a whole week, biting on my nails and anxiously gripping my seat to properly read chapter 298 -because just from the spoilers I already knew my heart couldn't take it- so I could pair it up with 299 and see if I have to find gasoline for my nagireo shrine catching fire or not.
And you know what I've got???
There's no friggin chapter!
It's scheduled for the 15th! Another whole ass week of ripping my hair out and for what? For Reo to realise he's always been good enough on his own and he just liked Nagi bc he was the first one not to pretend to be nice around him and decided to pull him along so he wouldn't be alone? And kicking Nagi to the curb bc boy I love you but you fucked up. Or Reo to actually try and comfort him but Nagi, who's not used to deal with this kind of emotions, tries to detach himself from the situation and pulls away? And either he quits or they end up as rivals? And my heart that once was white and purple to dye itself black with dread?
I still see a tiny, itty bitty sliver of hope feebly flickering by the end of the tunnel but now I have to wait another week.
Another week of pain and mental instability.
Dude I have exams this week! I can't deal with this kind of emotional suffering rn!
Another long week and for what? For the laugh? You like watching the timer go slowly down before our hearts all collectively break, Kaneshiro?
Oh, Kaneshiro, when I catch you...
Anyway, sorry for the rant. Idk, tell me what u think in the comments or smt i guess.
Blue Lock 299
Nagiii my baby 😭 I’m really gonna miss Nomura’s version of him, Sannomiya’s just hits different. He looks so cute and baby here but also so defeated at the same time, I really thought he would be crying this chapter considering his mental state in the last one but he held it in so well. Throughout Ego's entire lecture, he was just quietly sitting with his head down, accepting everything thrown at him, listening to people defending him and hiding how much it affects him. I don't know if I'm impressed, worried, or sad since all his reactions even before this just hints at his childhood.
I’m wondering if he’s actually taking Ego’s words to heart though since his first reaction after was to turn to Reo. Like despite the lashing he got, he still looks like a picture of innocence, almost like he’s untainted by egotism which isn’t exactly a good thing right? To grow, you must first understand and accept your defeat and all the negative emotions that come with it right?
So much hinges on the next chapter since knsr is so insistent on hiding Nagi's inner thoughts and reactions, its really difficult to infer anything. knsr really be gatekeeping him fr like I know he's his treasure and all (no wonder he got beef with Reo lmao) and he's reserving him for the money shot next chap but dude… Anyway, I just hope it’s written well, please knsr 😭
I still think he’s pushing some sort of "nagi is baby" agenda though. From Nagi’s internal monologue last chapter sounding so much like an abandoned child, to “little baby” in epinagi, to イノセント (Innocent) being the next chapter’s title, to how he’s drawn with his babyness so highlighted here, to how he's ignoring Ego's harsh words and addressing Reo instead etc. It's really making me assume "Innocent" will be about Nagi, like how he might be protected but also harmed by his "innocence". And of course, it’s the big “chapter 300”, everything’s been set up for it to be about him.
But I still do like (what little of) his reaction this chapter. I like everyone’s reactions actually and just this chapter in general especially Ego. I’ve seen so many people hating on him or saying he hates Nagi from the start or how he’s getting personal but I don’t see it? I never got the whole “Ego hates Nagi” narrative but maybe I’m just blind cuz EVERYONE thinks so! From this chap alone, I think it’s more like we can see how utterly disappointed, frustrated and even angry he is at Nagi wasting his enormous talent by being so ignorant (innocent) and making all the wrong choices. Doesn't this mean he cared enough about Nagi for him to get such a rise out of him?
Like when Isagi first asked Ego about Nagi, Ego was drawn against this black background before speaking which makes me think he’s feeling a lot (most likely disappointment and frustration) but is holding back to remain objective which he did. He concluded with “that’s all there is to it” after the most neutral statement ever.
It’s only when Reo (more on how I like his reaction later) started demanding a recount and defending Nagi with how much of a genius he is that Ego got triggered. Because so what if he’s a genius?? He wasted it all away and it’s too late now in Blue Lock’s context anyway. What's the point in hanging on to the "genius" title when he did everything wrong?
If you pay attention to Ego's tirade, you can see everything he’s saying is directed at NAGI. I don’t know why this fandom made it all about Reo (as usual) but the only thing he said that relates to Reo was how their team up killed Nagi's talent. Majority of it was directed at how Nagi did everything wrong from his decisions to mentality.
I agree and have been saying the single moment you can place the blame on would be when Nagi decided to ask Reo for help. That moment he decided to not do it himself and offload the thinking to Reo was what led to everything that can go wrong going wrong. But ngl, this seemed a little retcon-ish to me. Ego didn't really dive into their codependent dynamics (unlike how previous chapters portrayed them) but blamed it entirely on the moment they teamed up and how Nagi's talent withered there and then which doesn’t really align with what’s been said I think.
But anyway, now we get to Reo’s reaction. I really like it since the moment he started crying was only after Ego hit him with the reality that their team up killed Nagi's talent. It was from a moment of realization and dramatic irony that the team up he was so happy and cocky about, was never the good thing he thought it was (and we as the readers could see it). So what he's crying about is realizing how naive and foolish they've both been and also how Nagi's talent can never come back (according to Ego).
I just really like this far more than than the overly sentimental angle the shippers took since I just don't see Reo that way. In fact, him immediately demanding a recount and passionately negotiating and defending Nagi fits him way more so I'm glad knsr wrote it this way (and still managed to make him cry lmao).
Anyway... despite this being a chapter of just my fav being bashed, I enjoyed it. This is the sorta harsh egoistic spirit that got me into bllk in the first place. I like Ego just laying it thick on the exposition and explaining to us what led to Nagi’s downfall, which is really needed considering the amount of braindead dudebros and shippers we've here with zero reading comprehension.
I also enjoy seeing how ANGRY Ego got with his veins popping out and all in TWO separate instances like damn! It’s the first time we see him this worked up and it’s all my babygirl's doing lol. Ngl, I feel a weird, misplaced sorta pride for it. And I’m just so amused in general how Nagi keeps getting shot at even though he didn’t even start anything, wasn’t even saying anything and is just there but he’d to listen to all this because of people defending him lol. Also the fact no one cares about the rest of the losers yet we’ve two important players out here defending him 😭 Its also cool how Ego ended up saying "go home seishiro nagi" after everything, like it seemed softer somehow.
I’m guessing we’ll be getting the scene of Nagi crying like Naruhaya did next chapter? And perhaps his backstory after?? 👀 Because there’s a break after next week so we’ll only be getting chapter 301 ON MAY 5/6 WHICH IS NAGI’S BIRTHDAY HELLO? Perfect timing for a backstory no?? Is no one else seeing this coincidence?? I’ve been pointing out the sus af timings for all these breaks and them being blamed on Nomura’s health ever since the “to you who’ll die someday” chapter and how they seem to be used to align the main series and epinagi. I'm sincerely apologetic if its really Nomura's health, he should really take a longer break rather than trudging along, but the timing is still sus man.
Epinagi will be released on May 9th too so that's a packed week if there aren't anymore "breaks" being announced. Kinda hyped for it considering its also Nagi's birthdayyyy!!
Sorry, Tokimitsu...Despite losing...
Igaguri got his offer...In a way...
