Blue Period (Vol. 1) thoughts:

How do people who aren't artists view art? They hold many misconceptions about it: that they can easily draw something, and they assume that any artist can make any type of art; not realising the different skills needed for someone to excel in thst specific medium. Then there comes the heated 'talent vs. skill' compliment — is one born a genius at drawing, or do they have to put in the effort just to draw something good? An artist would wish for their effort to be recognised.

Yatora is the average guy. Someone who gets by in life by following scripts; taking the 'safe and expected' path that society puts on students. This leads him to feel rather disconnected from others, and even himself— that is, until he makes art. Art gives him a sort of individuality, to be able to express himself and to have 'real' conversations with others people. It's something that can be his, not someone else's. This is what leads him to want to pursue art! It makes him care, and be passionate, striving to achieve something of his own accord for the first time in his life.

Another characteristic of Yatora is that he's hard-working. This is mentioned in the first chapter, but we are also shown this through his summer vacation assignment: he makes 30 pieces of still life art, going far and beyond to improve at drawing. Once he has his eyes set on something, he'll make ends meet to see it through. To achieve what he wants most.

Every industry has its ups and downs, so pursue the one that matters to you : )

Yuka and their grandma... surely that won't be something the author sheds light on later on... heheh.

This manga progresses faster than I remember. Four chapters and we're already at the prep school arc? Yotasuke was introduced that early? Personally, this made it an easier reread than WHA. WHA is dense in its content.
