Ok, so otherkin make zero sense to me. I know about having spirit animals and native american tribes and such. That makes sense but from what I've read about the otherkin community, it's nothing like that. So, what is this? I really just need it explained or a link or something.
In short. Otherkin are people who identify in part as other than human (hence the other, in otherkin).
Most common belief is one in souls/reincarnation. This is a belief that some time in the past, the person existed as something other than human. That when they died, in that life, their spirit was reincarnated, but that this spirit carried with it a lingering effect from that life. Like the soul remembers how to be other, even if we are human now.
Some believe that their first life, the first time they existed, they were other than human and that their soul thus was formed to fit that body, that existence, and that no matter how many time they’ve been reincarnated, that at their core spiritual being they’ll always be that other.
There are many who believe that they are other than human because of psychological or neurological things that they can’t counteract.
There are few, very few, who believe they are physically other. That one of their ancestors was a nephilim, or a fae changeling, or something to that effect. These few are generally not taken terribly seriously by the greater otherkin community as it should be easy enough to prove it if you’re physically not human.
There are exceptions and variations of these, but it all boils down to; Otherkin are human beings that believe a part of them, most commonly spiritual or psychological, is something other than human, to a point where it’s a part of their core identity.
I’m otherkin. I believe that I was initially not human.I believe that when I died in that life I was reincarnated as a human being. I believe I have lived multiple lives as a human being.
These are my personal beliefs and I do not expect others to change how they treat me to accommodate them as there is no point, in this life, for all intents and purposes, I’m human, I just happen to have a few bits of “spiritual weird” bits.
