8.) A goodbye letter
Dear, Matoi I’m leaving and I’m not coming back. I’m sorry for not telling you in person, but I’m just not brave enough. My family doesn’t know where I’ve gone, no one does. But I’ll tell you, because I trust you, because you’re my friend, because you deserve to know. This town just isn’t it for me, I need to expand my wings and soar. Away from a stuffy mother, away from drunk father, away from a town that knows me. I can’t stand it. I want to forge my own path, I want to write my own future, I want to be in charge. I can’t stand it. So if you ever want to find me. Head south towards New Orleans. And ask for me. You’ll find me. Because this isn’t a goodbye letter. This is the beginning of me.

"Lisa says you have to be careful when walking down the street- there can be really crazy drivers out there."
Three little soldier boys walking in the zoo; A big bear hugged one and then there was Two.’ (Closed)
blue-eyed-fighting-queen:
Ryuko moaned because damn it was just so hot outside, why did she and Coby insist on going to the zoo? They could’ve been swimming in a lake, eating ice cream or sunbathing - Just anything else that didn’t involve going out into the heat and actually having to move. But aside from that, going to the zoo wasn’t such a bad idea, right? They could look at the new exhibits and have fun..and the zoo sold ice cream too.
Coby was all over the bears and wanted to go and see them first. He squeezed through the mass of people, followed closely by Merida and Ryuko.
Suddenly everything changed, she heard Merida yell and curse in front of her and she couldn’t see Colby at the rail anymore. "Fuck!" She yelled, tears brimming in her eyes as she pushed some people out of the way to get to Merida standing at the rail. Looking down, she saw the bear with it’s mouth closed around Coby’s right thigh. His scream of pain ringed in her ears as she climbed over the rail, completely out of her mind.
What was she doing? Ryuko asked herself but she already knew the answer. Throwing away her life to save a damn friend of hers. The black haired girl landed on her feet like a cat, rolling over the ground to take the energy out of the fall. Her hand went into her leather jacket and she grabbed the knife that she had always with her since she was a kid. It was a gift from her father, a long silver blade (long enough to protect herself but just short enough to pass the law without needing a permission for carrying it) with a red-leather grip.
Adrenaline surged through her veins and she barely registered Merida yelling and a speaker in the zoo ordering something but she ignored both, inching closer to the bear with her knife in hand.
The large thing didn’t pay her any mind, still busy with Coby’s leg. Over the loud rush of the blood in her ears she almost couldn’t hear him screaming anymore, but the way he moved and flailed, mouth wide open was enough to tell her that he was still screaming. She was a few feet away from the bear when she lunged forward, burying the blade up to the hilt in the bear’s neck.
Where were the other bears? Did any of the zoo keepers even try to get to them? Would Coby be okay? Questions flew through her mind but they were gone too fast for her to find an answer, instead replaced with the sudden realization of what she did.
The bear roared wildly, let Coby go and instead went for her. Ryuko had to let go of the knife, wasting her chance to pull it out and kill the bear. Now she had only helped to make it even angrier. Fear filled her as she turned around and did a mad dash for anywhere, somewhere the bear couldn’t reach.
She was almost completely up a tree, already grasping for the branch she wanted to pull herself on when a hot searing pain shot up her leg. A scream passed her lips and tears ran down her face when she looked down and found the bear clawing at her legs, blood running down her skin and falling onto the ground beneath.
Merida stared in horror as she witness Ryuko tuck and roll into the exhibit. Pouncing on the bear drawing the animal away from their fallen friend. "Wot the hell are ya do'n, Matoi?! Don't do stupid things without me!" The red head grasped the railing and flung herself over, rolling as well to brace impact. If one of them were going to fight off a bear, might as well get both of the fighting lasses on it. Plus Merida was going to shove her foot up the bear's arse like no other for taking a bite out of her friend.
While Matoi distracted the bear, Merida ran to Coby and almost vomited. The air was thick with the smell of blood and his right appendage was completely torn up. Like a broken toy. She recoiled, a sudden flashback rushing in like an unexpected house guest.
Her dad, fighting off the black bear at the campsite. Barely three, and having to witness the bear take off her father's right leg. Her mother had tried to run with them both, to take her away from the scene, but she saw. She saw all of it. The teeth coming down. The scream. The sickening crush of bone snapping.
It was exactly the same. Merida brushed away the brimming tears and set to work moving Coby to a safer part of the area. She had managed to move him towards the zoo keeper entrance door when another piercing scream rang through the air. "Fuck, Ryuko!" Merida set Coby down gently and spun around to see the grizzly bear slash at her friend in the tree.
Her leg looking like ribbons as they soaked down her pale thighs. The bear roared, taking the scream as a threat. Merida ran towards the two, looking for some kind of weapon to use against the beast. She picked up a fallen branch, thick and sturdy. The red head ran across the clearing and smacked the bear in the back with her improvised club. "Get away from 'er ya beastie! Go snack on someone ya own size!"
The bear growled in more annoyance than pain, and turned it's attention to the third party. "Yeah, ya beastie! Yer ugly and ya breath stinks like salmon shit!" The red head taunted, carefully stepping backwards to draw the bear away from both of her injured friends. With just a busted up branch as defense. Her taunts must of registered in some form in the bear's head because it bared it's teeth and roared again.
She smacked the bear upside the head, and ducked as a meaty paw swiped just above her own head. The bear stood on it's hind legs, standing at it's full height at least 4 feet above her. She dodged another attack by rolling in between it's legs and whacking the thing in the back once more. This time her branch snapped in half, Merida stumbled backwards. Thinking quickly, she threw the rest of the branch as hard as she could at the bear's skull. It hit with a solid thunk.
It roared once more, unfazed, and even more pissed off. Shit.

Merida tugged the collar of her shirt, hoping to get some ventilation under her clothes. “Gods, why did we think go’n to da zoo during a heat wave was a good idea?!” Her friends Ryuko and Coby were with her and somehow had managed to drag their whining friend to see the new exhibits.
They were approaching the bear exhibit, bears always a sore topic for Merida after some close encounters with them. But Coby was just loving it. Spewing facts about Grizzly Bears, and Black Bears. Not really caring that no one else was listening. The exhibit was fairly new, so many people were wandering around trying to see the enclosure. Coby in particular, as he leaned over the rail to get a better look. Just then one of the people behind him was knocked into her friend causing him to loose his balance and plummet into the exhibit of bears.
"Coby! Are ya okay?! Get outta there!" Merida screeched down at her friend who was flat on back. he moaned and slowly got up. Zoo keepers were rushing everywhere trying to get to the entrance. One of the more territorial bears lumbered over to the semi-unconscious boy, sniffed, then growled at him. Then he took a chomp right out of the kid, sending him screaming into pain.
"FUCK! COBY!" The red head cried out. "RYUKO! HE JUST ATE COBY!"

3: Nose Kiss
Astrid leaned her forehead against Ryuko’s, shutting her eyes tightly as she fought to keep her breathing calm. “Look, I-” She paused as her mind sought for the right words. “I just want you to be safe, okay?” The blonde drew her head back slightly to steadily meet the other girl’s eyes. She pressed a gentle kiss against the tip of her nose and let one her hands seek out one of Ryuko’s and slowly intertwine their fingers.
