Denim on denim on denim! 👖 #ad I guess you can say I’m a little addicted! Did you know that denim is actually made from cotton and that you can recycle it and turn it into natural cotton fiber insulation that can be used in construction? Yep! This year I’m excited to be collaborating with @discovercotton’s #BlueJeansGoGreen program for America Recycles Day by doing the #DenimStackChallenge. Now you can recycle any old or worn denim and turn it into something good for other people and our planet. All you have to do is stack up your denim and post a pic on social media with #DenimStackChallenge between 11/11 and 11/18. Make sure to tag @discovercotton and @oh_anthonio so I can see your stacks! THANK YOU! Our Fashion Revolution Week Denim Drive for @discovercotton's #BlueJeansGoGreen recycling effort was a huge success! When we first brought the conversation to @steubenhabitat 200 pieces of denim was what we were hoping for here in Hector. @corningrestore's vision brought our goal way higher, and although we did not collect 2,000 pieces (the amount it takes to create enough insulation for an entire home) we easily smashed our original dream in triplicate! With the help of @twogoatsbrewing, @rastaranchvineyards, @wink106fm and Corning Catering we had a FUNdraiser to help cover shipping costs at Corning ReStore and now that we're all sorted, counted and packed up, three pallets of unwanted denim is ready to ship to Chandler, Arizona. There it will be processed and recycled into @ultratouchrd, denim insulation for homes and buildings! Our denim drop off sites were enormously instrumental in this effort and we truly couldn't have done this without the help everyone involved! Big thanks to @connorsmercantile @properetiquettemodernvintage @glenmountainmarket @hectorhandmade and @rastaranchvineyards for hosting collection bins, you brought in and rescued so much denim from the landfill! We hope @habitatforhumanity builds will enjoy insulation grants from these fibers for many years! Help! The denim monster! 👖🐉👖🐒 We collected SO MUCH DENIM during our Fashion Revolution Week Denim Drive! It's been mostly just me sorting, and without much free time lately, but I PROMISE the final count will be out soon! Join our emailing list at tinyletter.com/themisandthread to be the first to know! Tractor tire for scale at our Denim Drive Shipping Headquarters at @rastaranchvineyards - There are THREE GIANT (like ton bin sized almost, giant!) boxes of denim we gathered for the #BlueJeansGoGreen denim recycling project with @corningrestore @connorsmercantile @properetiquettemodernvintage @glenmountainmarket @hectorhandmade and @rastaranchvineyards. We've still got A LOT to sort and pack up but it looks like 1000 pieces of denim! Great job to everyone who participated!!! Meet Alex, he works at @corningrestore and has been helping us coordinate and collect for this week's Denim Drive! @steubenhabitat @habitatforhumanity were the perfect partners to help this recycling effort come to life! The ReStore offers second hand home furnishings and raises money for Habitat for Humanity! During @fash_rev we wanted to talk about solutions for some of the fast fashion industry issues, and working with what we've got is my favorite way to work on pollution! Through #BlueJeansGoGreen denim is recycled into denim insulation which Habitat for Humanity can apply for free insulation grants for the community building projects!
