If there was nothing to hold his attention, his own mind would do it for him, though at the cost of his awareness of his surroundings. And that was what had happened to him just now. He was on Route 1, hands in his pockets and basking in the nostalgia that had routinely hit him each time he’d set foot on that first path since returning.
✦ Of course, he’d been gazing down at his shoes while walking, and hadn’t caught even the slightest glimpse of chestnut locks coming the way he was going.
✦ It was a domino sort of chain of events after that. Red realized only too late that he hadn’t been paying attention, and their heads knocked into each other, which somehow brought their lips together. The raven stumbled back, dazed for a moment, before he realized what had just happened.
