About the Kallura hug scene: I also think Keith was sympathizing with Allura. It's kind of a silly comparison, but Keith reacts very differently to Lance's disdain for him than Allura's. Allura's hatred(?) for him genuinely bothers him, I think bc he understands where it comes from. He often uses anger as a cover for other emotions, but with Allura he can't, bc how can he when she's lost so much?
THIS IS A GREAT POINT, I DIDN’T THINK OF THAT.
Like, in other situations, Keith doesn’t seem to care if people don’t like him. He sort of shrugs it off, no big deal. He’s very independent anyway. But with Allura? Oh boy.
Keith knows Allura’s hatred is something she’s clinging to because of what the Galra have done. In fact, Allura’s world is rather black and white, at this point: To her, the Alteans are good, the Galra are bad, and that’s the only thing that makes sense to her anymore, after she’s lost her father and 10,000 years have slipped by. And Keith is so genuinely bothered because he knows this. He’s already so shaken up by the discovery concerning his bloodline, and now he has to lose Allura’s trust. And, like you said, he can’t just be mad at her to defend himself, because he can see how painful this is for her.
I don’t think this is a silly comparison at all! It shows SO MUCH about Keith’s nature and how he deals with conflict. Thank you so much for bringing this up!
