Parenting was one of those odd things George figured. Smiling down at his child as he rocked her in his rocking chair. Brushing a bit of hair from her face. “Hello,” he whispered.
His daughter giggled at him, “dada.”
George smiled, “yeah that’s right. Now is sleepy time, alright? So we need to go to sleep.”
She nodded at him, “luli.”
“You want a lullaby?” George asked her.
“Alright lovey. I’ll sing to you.” He smiled down at her, gently rocking them.
“Frere jacques, frere jacques,” he sang, the french flowing from him tongue.
She smiled at him, “Dormez-vous? Dormez-vous.” George sang. “Sonnez les matines, sonnez les matines.”
“Ding dang dong, ding dang dong.”
He started again. George didn’t speak french, but it was a lullaby his parents had taught him. A small thing.
Sooner than later his daughter had fallen asleep, nesting her head in his chest. Smiling tiredly, George picked her up. Walking up to her room. Tucking her into bed, gently kissing her head. Goodnight sweetheart,” he murmured before shutting the door.
He remembered so vividly those months ago. Almost s year ago at this point. He’d walked out into the brisk chill of the changing weather and went to the prison on a summon.
Sam had met him at the door. And said he had something for him. George had tilted his head, and walked after Sam. Down to the main cell.
And there he found, Dream. Cradling a baby. Sam didn’t seemed moved at all. “Apparently he was pregnant. A child shouldn’t grow up here.”
“Oh,” was all George had said. Walking across the lava into the cell.
“Make it snappy.” Sam ordered.
George had no intention of doing so. He walked over to Dream, kneeling down to meet with him.
Dream looked up at him, holding the child. “She’s beautiful isn’t she.” he’d said to George had nodded.
“A fast grower too, I wonder who she gets that from.” Dream laughed a little.
“Must’ve been me then,” George said in all seriousness. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay, you couldn’t have known.” Dream reassured him. Handing him the child.
He took her in his arms, “have you named her?”
“Yes,” Dream had said, “her name is Anna.”
George had smiled, “hello Anna.”
“Go, I’ll find you eventually.” Dream had whispered to him.
Not another word was spoken between to two and George kissed Dream on the cheek briefly and stood in the corner. Feeling the potion hit him, making sure it dotted Anna’s face ever so slightly not to hurt. And then they were back.
George took off his cape, wrapping Anna up. “Thank you Sam.” he’d said curtly. And then left.
And that had been the start.
