kinda strange and a bit bizarre that for a lot of ppl its perfectly acceptable to call urself a girlboy lesbian or a boydyke but the second someone says theyre a lesbian man suddenly yall are freaks about it. i guess being a man is only acceptable if u use the nice infantilizing words.
NO MORE “MERUMUGI PARALLELS KILLUGON” IM SICK OF IT IM TIRED OF IT WE TALK ABOUT IT TOO MUCH AND ITS AN IMPERFECT PARALLEL ANYWAYS!!! WHAT ABOUT MEREUM AND PITOU AND GON AND KILLUA HUH???? WHAT ABOUT “THIS PERSON IS VERY IMPORTANT TO SOMEONE I CARE ABOUT” HUH??? WHAT ABOUT THE PROTECTIVE BEAST METAPHOR??? THE MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING OF UNRELENTING LOYALTY DESPITE SAID LOYALTY NEVER BEING RECOGNIZED OR APPRECIATED????
online leftists really need to stop getting mad over people not articulating themselves perfectly or groups being forced to make concessions to benefit the greater good it’s honestly starting to piss me off. the privilege of growing up in a liberal/leftist hub or within those spaces online is not something that everyone can afford or wants to do. it’s the same logic as people who think the usa south is unsalvageable. the only way to change things is with numbers and the only way to get numbers is to recognize that sometimes people don’t have perfect politics. the revolution will not happen if we ostracize anyone who doesn’t perfectly understand or subscribe to theory, and theory is useless if we do not recognize the lived and ever-changing reality that contextualizes it
hey guys in case you weren’t aware the rule of “block liberally instead of engaging in things you don’t like” doesn’t apply to close friends who made you uncomfortable. i know the internet has made it real easy to block and move on but you do kind of have an obligation and responsibility to have a discussion with your companions before completely abandoning them. sorry.
it’s actually so fucked up to me that killua lost gon in so many ways in caa like. first emotionally bc gon cut himself off from killua + everyone else bc he was too traumatized to deal with his own emotions and then PHYSICALLY like. killua watched gon die. maybe gon was holding on by whatever flickering life force he had left but killua watched gon fully intend to take his own life and nearly succeed and then be put in a hospital room hooked up to a million machines with pretty much no chance of survival. killua was IN the grieving process as he saved gon. he was mourning the loss of his best friend.
and then suddenly gon is back and everyone is so happy to see him pull through but they didn’t SEE what killua saw. killua SAW gon die. and i just don’t think it’s easy for him to suddenly be like “oh, gon is okay again. he’s not dead.” even if he is the one who saved him. it’s not that easy to just flip that switch because death, ESPECIALLY for someone like killua who grew up so familiar with it, is such a permanent thing. it’s like the one thing that cannot be fixed or reversed. so now killua has already started going through this mourning process, and then he loses gon again as they part ways and i just can’t help but think he’s still going through that. despite the fact that everything is okay now he still has to complete this weird, traumatic and confusing grieving process and now he doesn’t even have anyone to do it with or gon by his side to assure him that he’s okay. he just has to… quietly and lonesomely grieve his dead friend who isn’t even dead.
absolute brainrot over gon and killua rn just thinking abt how killua is always shown to be the more “mature” one out of them using a very literal meaning of the word mature (quiet, knowledgeable, thinks things through) but when it comes to actual self awareness and ability to navigate the world gon is by FAR more mature.
the only way killua has witnessed the outside world was to study it. he was never going to the store to run errands and he never had a family he could talk about his day with. very small and human things that gon DID have and probably had a lot of experience with. killua was never independent (despite how he presents himself) and the only experience he had with the outside world was to figure out how it works LOGICALLY so he can fit himself into it and complete jobs. quite literally society was a puzzle he had to very carefully piece together in order to properly kill people. gon on the other hand being raised in a small town with familiar people and a unconventional family and nature all around him has just had very human and down to earth experiences. its apparent in the way he talks to the sailors and asks questions and so confidently walks home using his own two feet.
like. it’s so hard for me to word this properly but killua is basing this idea of maturity off of negativity and what kids see AS mature. he’s seen as more experienced bc he has “faced more hardships” and knows how ugly the world can be. he thinks that he has to do everything himself and never ask for help because if he HAS experience he should be able to USE IT, and asking for help shows that he isn’t as mature and strong as this front he has put up makes him out to be. but killua knows NOTHING. he is so emotionally unintelligent and unaware of how the world works and he ADMITS and DISPLAYS this time and time again. and then on the other hand gon has a more real and human understanding of maturity and experience. he actually knows the world, sees the beauty and love in it bc that’s what he’s been surrounded by. and he wants to learn more, is constantly asking questions and working to improve bc he wants to just drink in the universe. experience has not made him cynical and logical and quiet. it’s made him trusting and curious. it has made him more willing to push himself.
and isn’t that what give him more potential? what makes him our protag? what made him stand out to netero and gave him a better score than killua during the hunter’s exam? his love and unbiased curiosity and willingness to take chances because he trusts the world to have his back when he needs it?
and to go even further: isn’t this curiosity and trust and inherent belief in beauty exactly what he loses, once he loses kite? and it just makes me think, like… this isn’t maturity. this isn’t “growing up,” despite what all the adults around them say and do. gon actively gets LESS mature. he becomes narrow minded and unable to budge from his goals. killua, on the other hand, given love and a grounded, real understanding of the world, BECOMES our protag and shows off this new trust and understanding of the universe. this emotional intellect he has gained throughout the series.
and idk. i’m rly tired but i just think some of the biggest core themes in hxh are like what it means to be human and how love ties into that. and these characters show time and time again that despite the way we often see maturity, despite associating it with getting old and cynical and hardened by the world, what brings out your potential and what makes u actually capable of navigating the world properly and healthily is love and trust and a deep desire to improve just because the idea of it is beautiful.
