Meet Blurry
Pairing: Tyler/Blurry x reader
Word Count: 1347
Warnings: Language, blood, and angsty bits (i also make an innuendo at the end hehe)
Author’s note: ever since I read my first blurry x reader fic i have been wanting to write one! I think it’s so cool to write about blurry as a demon and I kind of took a different twist on it, but I think I am going to make this a small series of blurry x reader oneshots! I hope you enjoy!
The very first night you ever met Blurry wasn’t as scary as you were expecting it. You remember it very vividly. It was October 13th, and it was raining outside. Tyler, your husband, was down in his basement working on his new album. You and Tyler got married two months before, and even though you knew about his demon, you promised to love him ‘till death do us part’.
Tyler had warned you about him. How he can be dangerous, and hurt people. He told you to run, hide, and call Josh if she sees his eyes even flicker the smallest amount of deep crimson. You had been dating Tyler for a year before getting married, and Blurry had never made an appearance.
This made you happy. This made you feel like you had cured him of his internal struggles, but little did you know that you can’t cure a demon manifested by insecurities. Blurry is a demon, afterall.
You were sitting on the couch, holding a mug that had a picture of you and Tyler form your wedding, drinking hot chocolate. The rain outside made a calming pitter-patter on the roof. You closed your eyes and listened. Drip. Drip. Drip.
Crash.
The sound of something tumbling over made your eyes snap open.
Tyler.
You ran down to the basement, and softly went down the stairs to see what was doing on. You saw Tyler leaning over his Ukelele, well, half of his Ukelele. He was holding the neck and you followed the strings to see the body dangling off. He must have snapped it.
That’s when you noticed his hands. Smeared black like a child painting a night sky with watercolor. You moved your gaze up to his neck. Black.
“Ty, baby?” you whispered, taking slow steps.
Run. That’s what Tyler told you to do. Run, hide, call Josh.
“I don’t think we’ve met!” a deep voice rumbled from Tyler’s face, which was still looking down. You wanted to see those eyes, but at the same time you feared what they would look like.
“B-Blurry?” you stammered. Your palms began to sweat, and your knees began to tremble.
Run. Damnit. Run.
Instead you took another step toward Tyler, or Blurry, whoever it was. You wanted to touch his hand, to feel the black paint. How does it get there? Does it just appear? Does it hurt?
“You know who I am?” the deep voice echoes through the basement. His head snaps us and stares into your eyes. You couldn’t look away. His eyes were red. Burning, flaming red.
“Yes, you’re Blurry,” you whispered.
“Tyler isn’t good enough for you, you know that.” He took a step closer to you, and you wanted to step away but you didn’t.
“I think it’s the other way around.”
“What?” Blurry looked at you with a confused look.
“I’m definitely not good enough for him, like he could do way better than me.”
“That’s not true-”
“Aw thanks!” you smiled a big smile, making Tyler’s, or Blurry’s, eyebrows crinkle together.
“Why are you saying thanks?”
“You said I was good enough for him! I usually don’t get compliments.”
“I wasn’t trying-”
“Wait I have so many questions, mind if we sit down?” you asked, eagerly. You weren’t afraid, and you could see that Blurry feeds on pain and fear, so as long as you stayed happy he wouldn’t be able to hurt you.
Right?
You sat down on the couch and Tyler, or Blurry, sat down next to you. You stared at his face, studying him. It was Tyler’s hair, and Tyler’s nose, and Tyler’s mouth but his eyes were red. You reached your finger and poked his cheek, making him dodge away,
“What are you doing?” Blurry’s deep voice vibrated your body.
“Seeing if it’s still Tyler’s body. Why is your voice so deep?”
“Because I’m a demon? I don’t know?
“Interesting, and you were made because of his insecurities?”
Blurry rolled his crimson eyes. “Yes, because Tyler is a pathetic excuse for a human, and he can’t write or sing-”
You shut him up by planting a kiss on his lips.
“You still taste like Tyler,” you whispered. Blurry raised his hand and backhanded you. You held your cheek, tears forming in your eyes.
“Of course he would date someone as insane as you,” his words cut like knives.
Insane. That’s what your ex called you.
“That really hurt,” you mumbled, still holding your cheek. “Also, Tyler is amazing and he is so talented. Why do you do this to him?”
“Honey, he does this to himself.”
“Did you just call me honey?” you tried to not laugh, but it cracked you up hearing a demon call you honey.
“I-” Blurry was at a loss for words. Messing with a demon was something you never expected to do on a rainy october afternoon, but it was turning out to be pretty fun. Painful, but fun.
“Why are you here anyways? I haven’t met you yet and I’ve been with Tyler for almost two years.”
“Because he’s so pathetic he can’t even write a new original chord progression, everything is the same. Pathetic excuse for a musician.”
“That’s not very nice, Tyler writes songs about you.” You reminded him of the entire blurryface album.
“I-”
You interrupted him again, “Like I honestly should be thankful for you, Blurry! Without you, Tyler wouldn’t have been able to write Stressed Out and won a Grammy!”
“Don’t thank me!”
“I just did!” you grabbed for his painted hand and held it tight. It was cold, and Blurry tried to move his hand away.
“Don’t touch me!”
“You’re cute when you get angry, like I always thought Tyler was attractive, but with red eyes, wow, it’s something else.”
Blurry got heated. Your compliments were working.
“Shut up!” He screamed, shoving your body. You fell off the couch and hit your head against the table, bring a sharp stinging followed by warmth. You were definitely bleeding.
“You know Blurry, I think I love you.”
“What?” he walked over and stood over your body.
“I love you,” you smirked. “I love Tyler, and everything that comes with Tyler, which includes you.”
“You’re pathetic too,” he spat.
You lifted yourself off the ground and stood up, you grabbed Blurry’s head and pulled it towards yours, locking your lips with his. He struggled but you continued kissing him, and he fell into the rhythm. You heard a soft moan, and you pulled back.
“Y/N?” Tyler’s brown eyes stared into yours with a confused and scared look. He backed up and started to look around. His eyes fell on the broken Ukulele.
“Hey Ty,” you let out a sigh of relief that he was back.
“He was here, wasn’t he,” Tyler groaned as he picked up his broken Ukulele. “I knew I was getting too frustrated, I should have stopped, I was getting so good at controlling him.”
“Ty Ty, it’s okay! He was funny.”
“Funny? Are you bleeding?” he saw the blood on your hand from when you grabbed your head.
“He pushed me and I hit my head, he also slapped me. He really doesn’t like compliments.”
“Compliments? Why were you complimenting him?”
“Because I could tell it made him weak, plus you came back after I kissed you. I literally kissed Blurry away.”
“I’m so sorry you had to deal with that,” he wrapped you up in his arms but you just giggled.
“Seriously, Ty, it’s okay. I wasn’t scared, and I wouldn’t have let him actually hurt me. He didn’t do anything too rough, I’m use to you in the bedroom.”
Tyler rolled his eyes. “Well, thank you for being so understanding?”
“I told him I loved him, does that mean I am cheating on you?”
“Well, Blurry is a part of me, but you have sex with him then I might be a little upset,” he joked.
“It’s late, lets go to bed!” you grabbed Tyler’s hand and led him back upstairs. “Oh, and we need to get you a new Uke.”

sixteen: tyler // gender neutral reader and trigger warnings throughout //
When Josh got back, things just got worse. Way worse. Tyler only felt twice as ashamed and guilty for what happened to y/n. It was already evident that they had told Josh, because he could feel a difference between them. Like the way Josh’s eyes would shift to y/n every so often, just to reassure that they were alright. How Josh would whisper things in y/n’s ear or rub their shoulder or be more comforting. How Josh kept more of a distance around Tyler, how his smile wasn’t quite as bright, how he looked hesitant. Both of them did. And Tyler couldn’t blame them. In fact, he’d probably do the same himself if he ever found out his best friend had hurt another one of his best friends.
One day Tyler couldn’t take it anymore. He was at band practice with Josh, editing some tracks, when he took a deep breath. “Y/n told you, didn’t they?” he sighed.
“Told me what?” Josh cleared his throat, looking at Tyler across the room, wary.
“About what happened,” Tyler murmured. “While you were gone.”
“Yeah,” Josh shrugged, clearly not in the mood to discuss the topic. “They told me.”
“Do you not trust me anymore?” Tyler regretted asking the question as soon as the words left his lips. He bit down on his tongue.
“Jesus, you still haven’t learned. Have you?” the echo of Blurry’s whispers radiated through his mind. Tyler shrunk in his seat, closing his eyes. “You’re just egging me on, Tyler. Might as well put Josh back in his place too.”
“You know I can’t fully trust you,” Josh began carefully. “Especially with Blurry around. And y/n can’t either, Ty. You can’t ask that from us.”
“But it doesn’t mean you need to distance yourself,” Tyler felt like he was almost whining, embarrassed that he was complaining to his friend. He had no right to be. It was his fault the distance was necessary in the first place.
“Yes, Tyler,” Josh argued. “It actually does.”
“Can’t you see that I’m trying?” Tyler whispered, taking in a shaky breath, trying to keep the tears from falling, trying to keep Blurryface inside. “I never meant to hurt y/n. Or you.”
“We know,” Josh nodded, he looked away, almost just as embarrassed. “But we just don’t know how to help. We don’t know what’s wrong with you.”
“I don’t know what’s wrong with me!” Tyler roared, finally coming to a breaking point. His body heaving up and down, trembling, the black paint seeping at his fingers once again. No, no no no no no…
“Tyler-” Josh instantly picked up on the sudden tension in the room, easing up from his seat across from him on a separate couch, eyes seized with fear.
“Go,” Tyler barely mumbled as he felt the red begin to disperse through his eyes. “Go now, Josh.” He shoved the laptop off of his lap to the side, closing his eyes tight, tugging at his hair, trying to shove the voices out. He heard Josh scurry up off the couch and grab his bag before leaving, then the slam of the door behind him. He was alone now.
“What? Did you think telling Josh to leave would help you?” Blurryface teased, low gravelly voice sending shivers down his spine. “It just makes my job easier. Now we’re all alone.”
“Listen…” Tyler attempted to argue, but Blurry shushed him, placing his own finger to his lips.
“This is how we’re going to do it tonight,” Blurry murmured, tracing the finger from his lips down to his neck, dangerously slow. Tyler hitched his breath, closing his eyes, feeling the fingernail dig into his flesh as it raked down his neck, stopping at the fabric of his shirt collar. “You’re going to listen to me, yes?”
“Y-yes,” Tyler whimpered out.
“You don’t need Josh. You don’t need y/n. You don’t need anyone Tyler,” Blurry whispered. “Do you know why?”
“W-why?” Tyler stuttered, fingers of his hand slowly branching out and wrapping around his neck, choking himself. He had no control over his own body.
“Because I’m the only one you’ll ever need,” Blurryface’s voice echoed throughout his mind, raspy voice fading into the silence of the room. “I’m the only one that’s keeping you alive.” Tyler could barely breathe as the hand clasped tighter around his throat, constricting his trachea, making his eyes roll to the back of his head. “They have no control over you, Tyler. They cannot help you. Yes, you are a problem, but you my friend-” He let out a low, dark, twisted chuckle. “You can’t be fixed.”
“Please,” Tyler begged, but the painted hand just kept crushing his throat, choking him half to death.
“I’m the only one keeping you alive,” Blurryface repeated. “Who’s to say there won’t be anyone keeping you alive one day?” The hand squeezed tighter. “That maybe one day even I won’t be left?” Tighter. “That perhaps you’ll finally learn who’s really in charge of you? Hmm?”
“Fuck,” Tyler’s vision was hazy, black around the edges, spots forming in his eyes, entire head buzzing and hearing gone completely.
“And who’s to say that day might be today?” Blurryface taunted, digging his nails into Tyler’s flesh.
There was a knock at the door and Blurry released his grip completely, Tyler choking for air, the black paint fading away as well as everything else, nothing left but the miserable coughing that jostled his entire ribcage and made him almost pass out. He felt like complete shit. There was another knock, and then the door just opened, with Josh there, staring at Tyler. He instantly rushed to his side, patting his back, helping him sit up.
“Holy shit, are you okay?” Josh asked, rubbing small circles on Tyler’s back until the coughing faded away. “Dude, there’s… bruises.”
“Already?” Tyler barely breathed. Josh brushed fingers up against Tyler’s neck, over the blue and purple fingerprint bruises starting to surface. Tyler flinched and Josh pulled away, giving a sympathetic frown.
“I’m sorry I left,” he murmured. “I didn’t mean to trigger it, I just-”
“Not your fault,” Tyler shook his head. “It was better for you to leave. I knew he was coming anyways. I didn’t want you to get hurt.”
“I could’ve prevented you from getting hurt,” Josh insisted. “That’s why I came back. I’m sorry to see that I was too late.”
“It’s fine,” Tyler sighed, but Josh just pressed his lips together, thinking hard.
“You know, the reason why y/n told me about what happened isn’t because they were absolutely terrified of you,” Josh explained. “They wanted to help you, they still do. And I know, what you said, what I said, about how we don’t know what to do or how to help… but I think there might be a way.”
“You told me a long time ago that you had given up,” Tyler reminded softly. “That it was no use.” He took in a deep breath. “I don’t want you or y/n to get caught in the crossfire.”
“We won’t,” Josh reassured. “We just want to help you. Promise.”
“What were you thinking?” Tyler tried to cooperate, although he still felt a small itching feeling in the back of his mind sensing that it was a bad idea.
“Therapy maybe,” he ventured. “Medication.”
“No,” Tyler instantly shook his head. “You know how that went last-”
“I know,” Josh defended. “I know. But just try again, maybe? Give it another go? For y/n.”
“For y/n,” Tyler repeated slowly. “Sure.”
“Really?” Josh raised an eyebrow, still cautious.
“Yeah,” Tyler took a deep breath, relaxing his shoulders. “But just uh, please don’t leave me. I got really scared, Josh. I didn’t- I didn’t know if I was going to make it. And if I’m on meds or at therapy and something wrong happens then-”
“I’m right here,” Josh gave a soft smile, putting a hand on Tyler’s shoulder. “And y/n too. We’re here for you.”
“Blurryface said I didn’t need you,” he argued. “Or y/n.”
“He’s right,” Josh replied, widening his smile. “You don’t need us, Ty. We need you.”

incubus [in-kyuh-buh s, ing-] noun, plural incubi 1. an imaginary demon or evil spirit supposed to descend upon sleeping persons, especially one fabled to have sexual intercourse with women during their sleep.
triggers: horror elements, sexual demonic entity, sleep paralysis, non-consent

your body went hot and you closed your eyes as your charming, handsome date leaned across the center console to kiss you on the cheek. it’s the first date in a while that actually felt right. your personalities meshed, you had great chemistry, and you could really see yourself dating him again. you’d be lying if you said you didn’t want to invite him in, but you were a good girl. you’d have to settle for those luscious, slightly chapped lips you’ve been staring at all night just on your cheek, for now.
“thank you tyler, i had a lovely time” you said, grabbing the door handle and opening it.
“me too, text me!” he said, gazing at you with those mysterious brown eyes. he had the faintest hint of a smirk that made you feel naughty in a way, like he could read what was on your mind.
“of course, cutie” you said flirtatiously, stepping out and giving him another smile before shutting the door. he waited until you unlocked and opened your front door before taking off, giving you a final wave.
once you got in, you took your shoes off and turned on the lights as you walked through the house. it tended to be quiet, so you turned on some music as usual. you decided a relaxing shower would help settle you down and wash away some of the nerves of the day.
you stripped down in the bathroom and stepped into the shower. you had a tendency to leave the bathroom door open so you could hear the music better. as you shampooed your hair, a smile formed on your face as you thought of something cute/funny tyler said. your mind drifted to if he were in the shower with you and what you would do to him. you rinsed your hair, turning to face the water but out of the corner of your eye, you seen a shadowed figure through the blurred out shower door. your heart dropped and you closed your eyes for a second before snapping your head in that direction, but you seen nothing.
it’s late, my mind’s playing tricks on me. you thought, even though it was only 11 pm and you had the tendency to stay up past 1-2 am, especially on saturday nights. you continued washing your body and reached for the conditioner. just as you were getting ready to pour some in your hand, you heard a loud bang in your house, as if something fell. you had a couple cats, so figured they knocked something over. it still scared you, so you skipped conditioning and stopped your shower.
god i’m so pathetic, getting scared like a child. you thought, grabbing a towel and wrapping it around you. you rolled your eyes, thinking maybe you weren’t mature enough to live on your own. you felt like you were in a horror movie cliche. you stepped out and turned off the music right away.
just in case, you went to your front door to check if it was locked. it wasn’t, so you locked it just to be safe before going to your bedroom. it wasn’t uncommon for you to forget locking the door because you didn’t believe the neighborhood to be dangerous anyway.
you were starting to get sleepy, so you turned it on youtube and watched videos as you usually did. after a while your eyes were getting seriously heavy, so you switched over to creepypastas. you refused to believe these were the cause of your paranoia earlier, because you’ve listened to these since you were a teenager and it’s never been a problem. you figured it had more to do with living alone. so you fell asleep to something about slenderman that you’ve probably heard 20 times.
----------------
it’s 3:33 am on the dot, and there’s an ominous shift in the atmosphere of your room. your t.v. turns to a non-signal, and a dark shadow moves across the room to the foot of your bed and watches you. he stands there for 15 seconds, feasting his eyes on the way your breath rises and falls peacefully. a malevolent fire is brewing behind his eyes.
he slowly pulls the cover off your body, eyes lighting up as he sees you in just underwear and a simple t-shirt. he crawls on top of your body to straddle your waist and the bed creaks. you’re unaware of a presence, but your body feels the warm weight on top of it. this manifests in your dream as tyler on top of you. you hum contentedly in your sleep as his fingers caress down your arms.
he licks his lips, leaning down to whisper in your ear. he whispers the dirtiest, most sexual things imaginable, filling your psyche with intensely vivid thoughts. this fuels your dream of tyler and you moan as things progress in the dream. the demon smiles, pleased with his work. he busies himself pushing your shirt up and sucking your pert nipples in his mouth, one at a time. his slender fingers dip into your underwear, the tips of them dragging up and down over your slit. you moan something incoherent and the demon chuckles before crawling down your body. he slides your panties off, spreading your thighs wide apart to get better access and finds your clit, sucking and swirling his tongue around it. he licks lower until he finds your opening, sensually caressing your thighs while tonguing you open. your body starts aching to be filled and he feeds off this energy.
just as you approach your climax, he slides a digit inside you carefully to feel your body tense while tonguing your clit. all his touches are gentle and coaxing to keep you craving more, even without your lucid awareness. being cursed with an eternity as an incubus garners lots of experience because it gets extremely painful if he is not satisfied sexually. it’s like being burned alive, and the only way to put that fire out is to seduce and fill someone else’s heart with that lust. his name is blurryface, and he is the demon of lust. unfortunately, blurryface tarnishes the souls of his victims once intercourse takes place. from then, the victim’s soul is doomed to an eternity as the feminine demon of lust, a succubus. before she passes on into the astral world to take the souls of her victims, she will suffer the rest of her earthly existence with an abnormally high libido.
the demon positions himself between your legs, pushing your panties aside and finding your tight, slick entrance with the tip of his cock. as he pushes the head in, your body stiffens and you start to become aware of the presence. you feel a forceful pressure as the demon thrusts into you slowly. you crack your eyes, and in the dark you’re able to make out a figure on top of you that looks mainly human, besides the horns, wings, and tail. the instinct to fight hasn’t kicked in because you still think you’re dreaming. the demon is staring down between your thighs as he pushes into you, soft grunts escaping his parted lips. his tongue darts across his fleshy bottom lip and his eyes shoot up to yours. it is then when you recognize his face.
“tyler? don’t...” you whisper, and he covers your mouth with his hand as he forces his cock in you deeper and harder, eyes burning into your soul. your eyes are wide open with fear at this point, tears brimming the outer edges. you are unable to move a muscle as he drags his tongue up your throat, teeth warning at your pulse. you realize you have no say in this.
his other hand moves to your breast, causing you to gasp at how cold it feels. he removes the hand from your mouth to press his lips to yours, and you find yourself parting your lips as an invitation. you moan at the cock pumping in and out of you fast enough to match your heart. you feel yourself being dragged into another orgasm, your choked whimper catching the demon’s attention. he purposefully grinds hard against your g-spot, while the base of his cock bumps against your swollen clit with every thrust. your orgasm hits you and you’re no longer able to stop your moans as the waves of pleasure overtake you. he holds onto the bed frame, fucking you impossibly fast and shaking the bed. you move your head to the side, whimpering in over-sensitivity. he lets out this deep groaning sound and drops his head to your chest, holding your throat as he slows his thrusts. you gasp as the warmth fills your insides when he releases his seed. you momentarily wonder if it’s overflowing. after a moment of heavy panting, he pulls out of you sharply and you feel something warm and wet oozing down your ass, answering your question. he stays silent and lays his head on your stomach, his aggressive, frightening aura seeming more docile.
“what are you?” you bravely ask after catching your breath. you bring your hand down to lightly run your hand over his hair, fingers tracing over one of his horns. he looks in your direction before pressing his lips to your stomach and your heart does flips. you lightly pet the black feathers on his wings and notice them twitch at your touch, pressing into your hand.
“blurryface, your chosen incubus for eternity” he speaks, shocking you at how soft and fragile he sounds. something flickers behind his eyes that slightly unsettles you.
“for eternity?” you reiterate shakily, obviously concerned and wanting more answers. he slowly sits back up, his hand running down your stomach and resting on your inner thigh.
“yes, but for now i’ll be visiting you in your dreams.” blurryface said as if it were the most normal thing. you glance down, taking in this human-creature’s body and can’t help but think he’s beautiful with his tanned skin, long limbs, and black ink markings.
“are you real?” you ask, touching his hand where it’s on your thigh and he squeezes. his hands still feel cold, and he places them on your shoulders and kisses you again.
“i am...” he says softly, deepening the kiss as if to prove to you. you touch his chest, feeling yourself becoming aroused again.
“but you need to wake up” he mumbles against your lips.
“wh-what do you mean?” you ask, opening your eyes to see him fading.
“wake. up.”

As the week progressed, things became much better. Tyler seemed way more relaxed around you, and surprisingly, you never found him rushing off to lock himself in the bathroom or running away. A couple times you found him getting up in the middle of the night, reassuring you things would be okay, and ending up returning a couple minutes later. You assumed he was just taking an actual legitimate bathroom break, but another part of your mind whispered that maybe there was still something very wrong. Tyler would tell you small bits and pieces of the truth about Blurry, like how he would pester him while he was driving or whisper in the back of his mind whenever he pulled away from a kiss, but you just gave him a hug and thanked him for telling you this, reassuring him that things would be okay.
Not that you didn’t believe Tyler, but you were curious to whether or not this entire Blurryface thing was actually real. You knew there was something afflicting him, making him act this way, but you couldn’t quite bring yourself to fully understand the red eyes or the black paint Tyler could be talking about. It just sounded strange and unpractical, much less almost impossible. But you always just nodded your head and kept quiet, remembering that he had promised you that he would let you meet Blurryface sometime soon.
Both of you were sitting at the dinner table, eating the Chinese take-out you had ordered for lunch, when you stared at Tyler, question bubbling up in the stew of your mind. “Hey, you know that time you told me how you were afraid of Blurry hurting me?” you cleared you throat.
“Uh yeah…” Tyler looked uncomfortable, instantly averting his attention towards wrapping Lo Mein around his chopsticks.
“You told me that he had hurt Josh once,” you recalled.
“He did,” Tyler admitted, looking even more awkward as he began to stare at his noodles, twisting the wooden sticks around with a shaky hand. His voice lowered to barely a whisper. “More than once actually.”
“What happened?” you dared to wonder.
“I don’t-” he shook his head wildly, something you had noticed him doing more often. It was like a strange tick or idiosyncrasy, and you found him using it as a method to clear his thoughts, or so you assumed. “I don’t really uh, I don’t really want to talk about it.” You watched, eyes softening as he stumbled over his words, shaky hands deciding to put down the chopsticks.
“It’s okay, Ty,” you reassured. “It’s alright.”
“No, I just uh, maybe some other time,” he quickly insisted, taking in a deep breath.
You gave a soft nod, deciding to let it go, spearing a dumpling with one of your chopsticks before putting it into your mouth. You were about to bring up another subject when you heard a grunting noise, and you perked your head up, almost choking on your food. Tyler was holding his head in his hands, with what seemed like black ink pooling at his fingertips, slowly dripping down his knuckles. “Tyler-” you barely choked out, your food falling from your mouth onto your plate, staring at him.
“Go away,” you barely heard him mumble, then noticed him tug at his hair, jolting his head lower towards the table, the black trailing father down his palms, and you began to notice it at his neck too. “Stop!” His voice grew loud and demanding, almost screaming, when he pushed back his chair, standing up, prying his hands away from his face and staring at you. His arms and hands were donned in black, as well as his neck, his eyes a glowing shade of bright red, an intense expression plastered on his face.
“What the fuck,” you could barely breathe. You felt glued in your position, your mouth agape, your arms shaking, legs turned to stone.
“You must be y/n,” Blurry smirked. “Tyler’s told me so much about you.”
“Tyler?” you warily called out, confused. He looked just like Tyler, except different. Much more angry. And darker. And evil. You could almost feel it radiating off of him.
“Oh, I’m not Tyler,” the figure chuckled softly. His voice was so distorted and scratchy, rough around the edges, but just as enticing and tempting. It was almost as if putting you in a trance. Those glowing red eyes pierced your gaze, lips curling up into a sinister smile. “My name’s Blurryface.”
“Blurryface,” you repeated, name familiar yet never fully recognized and understood until now.
“I’m am not Tyler, but simply a part of him,” he explained. “Think demonic possession if you will.”
“Ah yeah,” you nodded hesitantly. “Uh, Tyler’s told me about that. About you.”
“He talks about me?” Blurry seemed flattered. “How kind of him. You know, usually he tries to avoid me. Such a stubborn little child. He should know better. He can’t escape.”
“Y-yeah,” you stuttered out, still completely new to this entire aspect of your boyfriend. You had never met this side of him before. You were stunned.
“He thinks about you a lot,” Blurryface added. “I’ve pretty much convinced him that you hate him.”
“Well you’re a dickhead for doing so,” you spat, suddenly courageous. “Cause I love him.”
“He’s a waste of time and a waste of your love,” Blurry muttered. “You could do better, sweetheart.”
“Oh shut up,” you retorted. “You’re the reason he’s such a mess in the first place.”
“So he’s a mess, hmm?” a devilish grin tugged at the sides of his lips. “You see him as a problem, yes?”
“No, that’s not what I meant-” your face fell but Blurry just chuckled.
“Your words, not mine, darling,” he shrugged. “Take it as you will.”
“You’re distorting my words,” you argued.
“Ah, I don’t do that, dear,” Blurry clicked his tongue in disapproval. “I only distort minds.”
“Whatever, basket case. Give me my boyfriend back,” you snapped.
“Blurryface,” he corrected. “And I’m afraid I’m not leaving any time soon.”
“What do you mean?” you stared at him strangely. “Don’t you disappear after a while? Tyler told me that you come and go.”
“I can’t leave if you’re feeding into my energy,” he explained. “And you my love, you are just the perfect source of a plethora of insecurities for Tyler.”
“W-what?” you felt hurt at his comment.
“Well you think I’m the only reason he’s quote on quote such a mess?” Blurry scoffed. “You’re right up there with me, y/n.”
“I don’t feed into his insecurities,” you narrowed your eyes. “I help him. I help him get away from you, you asshole.”
“Actually, you do quite the opposite,” he corrected. “You’re like an instant trigger. Perfect welcome for me to step on in. Red warning flags. The whole package.”
“How am I detrimental to Tyler?” you crossed your arms over your chest. “I do nothing but love and take care of him.”
“Oh honey,” Blurry laughed, picking up a chopstick and spearing a piece of Emperor Tso’s chicken before chewing thoughtfully with a swallow. “It’s people like you that are the reason why I exist in the first place.”
“People like me?” you stared at him, offended.
“Yes, people like you,” he clarified, setting the chopstick on the table. “But at the moment, especially you.”
“Me?” you felt confusion and anger rise up inside of you. “It’s you! You’re the reason!”
“Goodness gracious, y/n,” Blurry sighed. “You see, you’ve only ever heard Tyler’s side of the story. He’s never even given me a chance to introduce myself, get a good first impression, really show you what I’m like.” He glanced at you, sporting a particularly naughty smile. “I’m afraid you still have so much more to learn.”

Giving up felt like the only option left at this point. After an entire conversation, more prodding, thinking that you were actually maybe getting somewhere, that Tyler might confide some of his secrets to you, things just absolutely collapsed. He was locked up in the bathroom once again, shutting out the entire world including you, making you feel twice as frustrated and exhausted. Trying to understand him was like trying to translate a foreign language sometimes.
You both fell asleep in separate rooms, Tyler crashing on the couch when he finally came out of the bathroom, and you deciding to ignore the situation entirely, retreating back to your room and curling up in the sheets, closing your eyes and hoping things would clear up the next morning. You were wrong. As soon as you woke up, Tyler was gone. All of his things were packed up and disappeared, and there were no traces of him anywhere, no note left behind or text message or call. Before calling Tyler, you decided to call Josh. And although you didn’t want to bother him, you really didn’t know anything else to do. You anxiously held the phone up to your ear, praying for him to pick up, chewing on your lower lip. “Hey y/n! It’s Josh,” his cheery voice greeted over the line. “What’s up? How are things going?”
“Tyler’s gone,” you sighed. “Things are worse.”
“What do you mean?” Josh wondered. “Like he left or he’s missing or?”
“Gone,” you just repeated. “I woke up this morning and none of his stuff is here, including him.”
“Did you call him?” Josh asked.
“N-no,” you stammered. “See uh, we got in a little altercation last night. I found out about his cuts, you know, on his arms. He got really nervous and I thought things were alright, I mean, things were okay and we were on the couch and I guess he just panicked. He ended up locking himself in the bathroom again. When he came out there were rings around his eyes and he was shaking and it looked like he was crying. I didn’t know what to do so I just went to bed.”
“Fuck,” you could practically envision Josh running his fingers through his hair and closing his eyes. “Is he alright?”
“Again, I have no clue,” you admitted. “I don’t know what to do Josh. I’ve been trying, so hard, and I just feel like I’m only making things worse.”
“It’s not your fault,” Josh reassured. “It’s just Tyler, that’s how he is.”
“Josh, there was something he had said before he locked himself in the bathroom,” you dropped your voice to a whisper. “Something about someone killing him.” You swallowed hard, scared. “What does that mean?”
“He will tell you when he’s ready,” Josh simply replied.
“Is someone making him do that?” your voice turned shaky. “The self-harm? The constant hiding? The secret keeping? Is he being blackmailed?”
“Sort of…” Josh drew out his voice, hesitant. “It’s hard to explain.”
“I just want to understand,” you insisted.
“I know, I know,” Josh took a deep breath. “I want to understand too, but I don’t. The best thing is for you to just give Tyler some space, alright? I’ll be home in a couple days, it’ll blow over soon.”
“I’m just worried,” you mumbled. “I just want him to be okay.”
“He will be,” Josh promised. “Just take it easy. I’ll call him and make sure he’s alright.”
“Hold on,” you stopped the phone call, listening to a knock on the door. “I think that might be him. Someone’s knocking.”
“Okay. Just shoot me a text,” Josh decided. “See you soon, y/n. Hang in there.”
“You too,” you added, listening to the click on the end of the line before slipping your phone into your pocket and opening up the door. “Hey, you.”
“Hey,” Tyler was standing there, looking shy and sheepish. He wasn’t carrying anything, just standing there in a yellow sweatshirt and looking uncomfortable, almost ashamed. “I’m sorry.”
“How many apologies am I going to have to hear before you finally tell me the truth?” you asked, eyes softening, tired of running away from the problem.
“I know, I owe you much more than an apology,” Tyler agreed. “I just wanted to wait for the right time.”
“And?” you raised an eyebrow, unsure of what his next move might be.
“I think the right time is now,” Tyler replied.

Both of you decided to just forget about whatever had happened. You never asked Tyler about his long sleeves again, or why he would sometimes rush off to lock himself in the bathroom, or any other question actually. You realized that your pressing inquiries only tore you two apart, and you would rather have Tyler feel safe and comfortable around you than scared. You finished up the rest of the cookies and then you both cuddled on the couch as you ate them and watched a movie, and ended up falling asleep. You woke up the next morning, and he was gone, which was strange.
“Ty?” you knocked on the closed bathroom door. You hoped he was alright in there. “You okay?”
“Y-yeah,” he stuttered out. “I’ll be out s-soon, promise.”
You were honestly worried about the kid. It had only been a couple days being together, and he felt distant as ever. Every single day he would wake up in the middle of the night, claiming that he had to leave but he’d be right back, and making you scared. You were afraid something might be very wrong with Tyler. You were almost about to go call Josh when Tyler opened up the door, giving a fake smile. “Good morning,” you cleared your throat, trying to act normal.
“Good morning babe,” he greeted, hugging you tight, burying his face into your shoulder. You closed your eyes, holding onto him, breathing in and out slowly.
“I love you,” you whispered, squeezing a little bit harder before letting go of the embrace.
“I love you too,” he mumbled, looking at you and kissing you softly. You gave a small smile before going into the bathroom, closing the door behind you, and then going to wash your face. That’s when you found something strange in the sink drain. Pooled at the bottom was a gunky black liquid, almost oozing into the pipes. You stared at it, then frowned, washing it down with water. It almost looked like ink or something. Probably mold or gunk from the shitty sewage and plumbing. You’d call maintenance to come check it out later. Josh had told you that sometimes the pipes acted up.
When you got out, you and Tyler had decided to go grab a bite to eat at a pancake house a couple blocks down, making jokes and playing around, coloring in the pictures on the kids menu with crayons, pouring an ungodly amount of syrup on your waffles, and even ordering chocolate milk. Part of the reason you loved Tyler so much was his innocence, the way he acted like a small child, how being with him made you feel young and energized and happy. Well, at least when he was in a good mood anyways. After Tyler had insisted on paying the bill, you began to walk home, the chilly frigid air blowing a breeze in your face. You folded your arms, goosebumps raising on your skin. It was a poor choice to wear a tank top and shorts. You glanced over at Tyler wearing a baggy sweatshirt and decided not to say anything. There must be a reason that he never showed you his arms. Maybe he was covering up his tattoos. Or he had really hairy arms. Or what if he had prosthetic arms. No, Josh would’ve told you about that. Wouldn’t he have?
“I probably look like a dick, don’t I?” Tyler barely whispered aloud, looking down at his feet as he walked, holding your hand. “Wearing a sweatshirt and letting you freeze to death.”
“Ty-” you were about to protest, saying it was totally fine, when he shook his head.
“Just don’t, you know…” his voice trailed off and he squeezed your hand, letting go before looking around to check the area. It was still early morning, and almost no one was around, it was just you two on the sidewalk. His voice dropped to almost silent. “Please don’t stare. Alright?” You were puzzled, unsure of what he could possibly mean, quickly assuming that maybe he was just insecure about his body. He slid off his sweatshirt and handed it to you, and you looked at the sweatshirt, about to grab it, but then your gaze gravitated to his arms that were revealed now that he was just wearing a tank top, both of his arms completely exposed. They were cut up, with scars and bloody red lines running across them, from his biceps to his wrists, all over his skin. Tyler looked away, still holding out the sweatshirt. “Just take it.”
“Tyler,” your voice broke, still staring at his wounded flesh, eyes fixated on the monstrosity.
“Just take the sweatshirt,” he begged, holding it out to you, shutting his eyes tight. “Please.”
“Look I didn’t-” you began but he just shoved the bundle of fabric towards you, hanging his head, still refusing to make eye contact.
“Take the damn thing already,” he insisted. “Before I run away. Please.”
“Okay,” you nodded softly, grabbing it from him and sliding it over your body. “Thank you.” You watched as he simply gave a small nod, then tucked his hands into his pockets, eyes shifting around before walking again, you following behind him.
“I just don’t want you to be cold,” he mumbled as you walked alongside each other in the sidewalk, his head still down, you not really sure what to think. “And I’d be a real douche bag if I walked the entire way home in a sweatshirt and you stood there shivering half to death.”
“Thanks,” you swallowed uncomfortably. “It means a lot.”
The two of you walked home in silence the rest of the way. Things couldn’t have been more awkward. Tyler looked uncomfortable and nervous and he kept his hands deep in his pockets, sure not to make eye contact. You hid in the hoodie and long sleeves he had lent you, thoughts clouding your mind, chewing on your bottom lip, wondering what else Tyler was hiding from you. You would have never asked any of those questions or made any of those assumptions if you would have known. No wonder he was so protective about not rolling up his sleeves. You wondered if maybe that’s what he does when he escapes to the bathroom. You felt sick to your stomach. Not because you were disgusted, but because you were heartbroken. You loved him, so much, with all your heart. You just didn’t know what to do to make things better. You cared about him so much.
When you got back to the apartment, Tyler opened up the door for you, and headed straight to the bathroom. You didn’t know how to respond, much less drag your feet to the door, knock, ask if he’s okay like usual. Instead you curled up on the couch, inhaling the scent of his sweatshirt, and you began to cry because you really didn’t know what else to do. No wonder Josh never told you.
Maybe this was your fault. Your questions made Tyler feel insecure and scared and that’s why he was hiding so many things from you. You were always too curious or interested in him, and it made him feel vulnerable. You should’ve listened to Josh. He would’ve told you when he was ready. You cursed yourself for not wearing something appropriate for the weather. If you had just brought something like a sweater with you, this entire mess could’ve been avoided. But yet, you’d still be wondering. You started to think maybe you didn’t want to know at all, and that only made you cry harder. You cared about Tyler so much, and to think that he would do that to himself, that he hated himself so much to the point of self-harm, it killed you on the inside. You wanted to do something, anything, to help him. You buried your face in your hands, lip trembling as you forced yourself to hold back sobs.
“Are you alright?” you heard a scratchy voice wonder aloud, then felt a dip in the couch cushion beside you. You looked up, tear stained face staring up at Tyler, and sniffled.
“Me?” you swallowed uncomfortably. “What about you, Ty?” You realized he had changed into another one of his hoodies. You didn’t mention it though.
“I’m alright,” he insisted, although his eyes shifted down towards the couch.
“Are you?” it came out hesitant from your lips.
“I don’t really know,” he admitted quietly. He tugged at the hems of his sleeves, pressing his lips together, closing his eyes for a moment. “I don’t remember a time I was.”
“Is there anything I can do to help?” you inquired.
“I’m okay,” he simply replied. “It’s fine.”
“I love you, you know,” you murmured. “Not like that’s going to change anything, but just please don’t forget about that. I care so much about you. And Josh too. There’s a lot of people that love you. We don’t want you to get hurt.”
“I know what I’m doing,” he retorted. “Don’t treat me like a child.”
“I-I’m just worried about you,” you stammered, embarrassed. You didn’t mean to condescend him at all. Of course you were just making matters worse. “I’m s-sorry.”
“No, it’s just-” Tyler took a deep breath. “I should’ve told you, alright? I should be the one apologizing. There’s just a lot of shit going on with me. Truth be told, I don’t know what the hell I’m doing. I just know that I don’t want to get you caught in the crossfire, y/n. I love you.”
“I love you too, Ty,” you mumbled, wiping your eyes with the sleeves of his sweatshirt, then giving a weak smile. “You going to be okay?”
“If I’m with you, then I think I will be,” he whispered, finally staring in your eyes for the first time since the sidewalk. “Cause being with you makes me feel okay again.”
