The theme here is the server's expectations of Tommy and his conflict with Dream. This song is so grand and theatrical, which to me resembles the larger-than-life role that is expected of Tommy when in reality he's just a kid. In Wilbur's own words, he just wants someone to follow.

Tommy has always been pushed into the role of the protagonist/antagonist of the server. He's assumed to be the hero of the story, the martyr who died for his country, the underdog who rallied up the L'manbergians before Doomsday, the kid who asked for too much.

Anyway, I love this song and there's tons of other connections you could make within the lyrics. :D

To cdream it wasn't about the discs themselves, it was about having control over ctommy. But by making cdream destroy the disks, cwilbur proved that ctommy isn't alone anymore. cdream only dared to target ctommy once cwilbur was out of the picture. It's intimidation tactics methinks

I love the dsmp so much because like. It was the only thing I had to look forward to during lockdown. I was anxious and depressed and I hadn't seen my friends in months and everything had fallen apart. I found wilbur's channel and the first dsmp event I caught live was the election (I voted for POG2020 ofc). I sat on my floor next to my at-home schoolwork and just got to watch these people hang out and make stupid jokes and watch their bits play out like theatre in real-time. Being able to watch the story grow just as I have these past two years makes me embarrassingly emotional, man. :'(

it's only two dsmp fan songs but somehow they hit my heart in such a special place. the story of how two close friends were tragically ripped apart and resenting each other but also missing each other dearly is just something that can be so personal
