like I spent last semester literally dreaming about bringing you over for the big ol’ family thanksgiving because I knew you would love everyone and they would love you??? and now you’re just gonna drop that you think everyone would like you and not, like, be currently making out with me????????

apparently the last time I was on this blog was a full year ago. to recap, I:

fell desperately in love with a classmate and was convinced it was gonna become a relationship

but found out I was just misreading signals and this person is the kind of person who can make anyone feel like the center of the world (through no fault of their own!)

we’re still really close friends and hang out a lot on weekends and part of me feels like they just need time to grow up to see that we’re made for each other, but I’ve mostly gotten over it and am not putting all my eggs in that basket

now I’m talking to cute boys on dating apps again and may actually get dates out of it this time

the problem is that girls don’t approach me because of gendered expectations and I might have to approach them for gender parity

because everyone knows gender parity is the goal

with another introverted fellow in a lot of the circles I’m in. conversation flowed pretty naturally and he seems pretty nice? but we were just getting to know each other over coffee so it was chill and just chatting. definitely worth a second date if that’s on the table. it’s nice to meet nice people in your community, if nothing else!

Last night my friends and I went out to celebrate one of our friends’ birthdays, and her boyfriend came up from out-of-state to celebrate, too. He wanted to make it a surprise, and apparently his version of “surprising” her is setting her up for disappointment and being a total asshole leading up to the “surprise.” She figured it out because he was being an asshole, and he... didn’t improve the situation with his recovery, to say the least. 

Cut to last night, when they were just kind of doing that old-straight-couple thing where it seems like they find it normal and enjoyable but they’re also kind of airing out dirty laundry and challenging everyone around to take sides? And we all love this friend of ours and have only met the boyfriend once. He’s the kind of guy with like an unearned sense of confidence and he’s a mathematician which makes him think he’s smarter than everybody. Like... he went on a tangent about how he knows exactly how he wants a cocktail and how he should be able to give the bartender really specific instructions and I said “sounds like you need to make it your damn self” and he didn’t get the hint

so everybody went home and I was walking with a friend of mine (yes, the one I’m destined for) and I blurted out “I just don’t get it” and he goes “I KNOW” and how is it that only the queers know what a healthy relationship is supposed to look like
