                                     holiday festival.

as time moves on from the disappearance and murder of natasha halpert, life in braedon seems to go back to normal. the school is gearing up for finals, snow blankets the town regularly, and the curfew that had been enforced only a month ago seems to be all but ignored again.  the annual holiday festival had been debated about merely a month ago, but now in the lure of safety and silence from any other impending disaster, it’s all systems go. starting on friday, december 14th until friday, december 21st the entire town transforms into a winter wonderland: gingerbread building contests, snowman building contests, various residents playing as santa at the coffee shop to take tots off tired mom’s hands, decorations sparkling as the night falls early.  some can’t help but feel like this town is tainted, that things have moved forward too fast. but with the state troopers heading back home to their own families and the case being listed as ‘cold’ in all senses of the world, being filed away unfinished, there’s not much else to do.  whoever killed natasha halpert got away with it.                            for now.  but even while teens sneak back into the barn for late night benders and lines of cocaine out of their parents eyes, the cheer squad appointing a new captain to replace their missing star, jonathan halpert disappearing in the middle of the night and leaving his wife and remaining daughter behind, someone in town knows what happened.  and some refuse to let it stay secret for long.

this post is primarily an update on what’s happening with the case. while winter esposito and noel ashford continue to work on it, most have written it off as unsolvable, including the rest of their small department. 

over the course of the week of friday december 14th until friday december 21st town members will float in and out of the town square to participate in a variety of holiday themed events and activities, including but not limited to contests, caroling, arts and crafts, baking, etc. 

those involved in the death of natasha halpert are beginning to rest a little easier, assuming that none know of their participation. at the moment, it seems as if they have truly gotten away with murder.

                                                                          plot drop 005 //

                                      fired.

Rumors have been spreading like wildfire in Braedon since the autopsy reports became public. Someone in Natasha’s life had been doing her harm for possibly years; her death was just the example of things going too far.  Despite calling in a reputable lawyer from out of town, Police Chief Halpert is walking a thin line. However, Natasha’s boyfriend, Eric Collins, never bothered with a lawyer, breaking down in the interrogation room with promises that he’d never do a thing to hurt his girlfriend. Though the two state troopers, as well as the remaining members of the Braedon Police Department on this case, are keeping a close eye on him, he’s all but off the suspect list, given space to grieve and mourn.  The city council - compromised of a couple local business owners, Eva Byers, Dexter Levski and even Fiona Lindman included, as well as the mayor and the longest sitting lieutenant on the police force, Brian Williams - has made a decision to fire the chief of the past thirty five years, John Halpert.  The decision is effective immediately, and in a town where gossip runs everything, the news spreads before the end of the day. Though the police department refuses to comment publicly or on the record about the incident, the local cops have made their distaste and distrust of their boss evident in the past few weeks -                       John Halpert is a bad, bad man and the possibility that he was the one who killed is daughter is very high. Some remain skeptical about it, but for most the loss of his prestigious job is enough to seal the nail in his coffin. While wife and daughter remain stoic in the face of this news, only asking for the truth about what happened to their beloved Natasha, there’s more rumors swirling about the two of them leaving John on his own anyways - one man, taken down by his own actions that he still, even now, refuses to acknowledge.

john halpert has been fired, taking his belongings with him out of the police station and turning in his badge as of tuesday, november 13th. 

at the moment, brian williams will take his position over in the interim.

while yale jacobson remains the only reporter actually in town, those from lincoln and omaha are starting to phone around, asking for quotes and information despite being engrossed in the atmosphere braedon has. 

john halpert is suspect #1 in almost everyone’s book, and the citizens of braedon are demanding justice despite the police refusing to acknowledge if he’s being charged or not

                                                                            plot drop 003 //

                                        gone.

5:52pm, Monday October 22nd.  A call came into the station, from two teens heading to the barn on the edge of the Mitchell Farm. A smell, indicating that something was very, very wrong. And when they stepped inside -                  Natasha.                            It seems impossible, considering Noel Ashford was there merely a day ago, and two days before then - someone moved her, taunting them in their own inadequacy. With the missing persons case officially ruled a homicide, school’s been canceled, local businesses urged to shut down for the next few days. No one is to leave town, and everyone’s being questioned.  But what are their motives? Who would have wanted this innocent girl with her whole life ahead of her killed?  The Halpert’s are shattered, seen at the police station in hysterics as the detective and the young cop, Winter Esposito have to explain what happened.  One question’s been answered, but so many more are unleashed. And now, more than ever, the citizens of Braedon need to look over their shoulders.  Someone in their midst is a killer.                                       And no one knows who.

news of natasha’s death will slip through the grapevine over the next day or so. 

school has been cancelled, giving time for students and administration to mourn this sudden loss. those who work at the school are asked not to leave for anywhere far, however - the police will be questioning anyone who may have had a link to her. 

while most businesses shut down due to the public warning, the bar, the motel and the gas station stay open as a public service. it allows people a chance to convene in a public location to grieve together, and also allows travelers a chance to stay. 

the barn at the edge of the mitchell farm, a frequent hot spot for teenagers to drink, smoke and have sex, is now being roped off and investigated for evidence of who was there and how natasha wound up there. 

the murderer themselves is a braedon citizen. the player in question does not know just yet, but will once all players are involved in the game.

                                                                             plot drop 002 //

                  annual halloween festival.

in a small town like braedon, the festivals and parties are the easiest way to get the rumor mill chugging. and with the recent news of a teenager gone missing on everyone’s mind, parents and adults alike are clustering to discuss their own theories, while the cops are off trying to find the young girl.  with booths run by local businesses, pumpkin pie and apple cider flowing freely, face painting and pumpkin carving, the whole town comes out to celebrate together. this year, however, it’s with an added edge -                           after all, someone did something to natasha.  with family friendly activities during the afternoon and the local bar ( hard times misery saloon ) hosting a costume contest all four nights at night, there’s something involved for everyone.

                   missing.

at 8:37pm on thursday, october 18th 2018, natasha halpert is officially reported missing to the braedon police department. with only a volunteer receptionist on duty, it’s up to her to get the chief of police back in the building, sending out all four of his employees hunting for the fair blonde.  over the next few days, search groups will be organized, posters will go up all over town, and the news will even hit the local television news 45 minutes away.  everyone knows the first 72 hours are the most important, after all. because after that -                                        natasha probably won’t ever come home.

while this news is big in terms of braedon, it’s not big enough to catch anyone’s eyes from elsewhere - for the moment, it’s being isolated to the town and it’s surrounding areas.
