Katherine Marie Whistler has a family 💖
I'm going to be honest and tell you that the more I think about this part of the episode and what it means to Kate the more I want to cry. From what we know about Kate, the only support she ever had was from her brother, once she lost Noah for her it meant losing everything, when we met her in season one, her work is her whole life, there is no room for mistakes or delaying plans for the goals she wants to achieve, being with Lucy felt like a mistake and opening up to express her feelings was (and still is) difficult for her, she felt embarrassed of herself and it's clear to us that she's not very good at saying out loud how she feels.
She says it herself, after Noah she closed herself off to connecting with people and then simply couldn't open up again. She never would have imagined that a brunette with bright green eyes was going to change her life as much as Lucy has.
I always talk about Kate's growth as an agent, but @hashtag-kawaii is witness to how sentimental it makes me talk about how Kate has evolved into show this cute creature who smiles like a fool when she talks about her girlfriend and how she now has a family, not just a work team a real family who is going to protect her from everything and everyone even when they know she can do it on her own.
Kate spent over a decade on her own, having to face the world with no one to tell her she could handle it, with no one trusting her that she was capable of anything, she had to fall and get up by herself, that's why when we meet her it seems that she is always defensive, ready to face whoever gets in her way, she is not like that anymore. Now she has someone she trusts, someone to take care of her after an assignment, someone to ask her how she is doing, a family with her.
It makes me emotional to know what this means to her, to know that she can feel more at ease because she has someone to trust, someone to talk to and vent to, someone who cares about her, it is no longer just her against the world, she has more people with her cheering her on because they know what a great person and what a great agent she is.
While I was writing the draft for this post I started to cry and stopped here, and honestly I started to cry again when translating it, so I'm going to leave it here, because I don't want to cry again 😪
