Sorting through my holiday photographs …
this is a street in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I love the architecture of the old city, the cobbled streets and the fortadelas on the hill. This street reminds me of the Bo Kaap, an area in Cape Town which lights up much the same for New Year and the Carnival. Hey! Did I say Happy New Year? Nooo. Oops.
It’s never too late.
Happy New Year everyone, but to Cape Town I wish happiness as well as plenty of water and loads of electricity.

LIVING IN COLOURS
Irresistible! Lime green, lemon yellow, sky blue and lipstick pink facades! Bo-Kaap – a unique section of Cape Town, located in the city centre, known for its steep, cobbled streets, coloured houses and colourful characters. It must be the city's most colourful neighbourhood, home to a uniquely diverse Muslim community, which has lived here for more than 300 years.
Why the bright colours?
The choice of colour is said to be attributed to the fact that while on lease, all the houses had to be white. When this rule was eventually lifted, and the slaves were allowed to own their own property, all the houses were painted bright colours by their owners as an expression of their freedom.
If you were free to choose any colour you wanted for the facade of your house, what would it be and why?
In your mind, which colour best represents freedom?

Bo Kaap - South Africa
Situated on the slopes of Signal Hill, Bo Kaap is the historical center of Cape-Malay culture in Cape Town. The area has a deeply rooted Malaysian, Javanese, Indian and Sri Lankan cultural identity, and was the first Islamic settlement in South Africa.
It is easily identified by its colourful homes, and cobblestone streets. A number of walking tours are available to explore Bo Kaap’s unique streets, visit the best restaurants, and the Bo Kaap museum.
