🔒 Sequel to Borderline of a Bad Idea aka the Carlando frat AU
Lando hates how he still feels like he's nineteen and snorting coke for the first time in the tiny frat bathroom every time he thinks about Carlos for too long.
Even more, he hates how it still hurts, somewhere deep in his chest. Anger and longing and the way things had ended always being crushed inside him into a thick, cloying pulp that infects his whole body and attitude.
He hates how he never got over Carlos, how he's spent seven years on this.

Lando doesn't know what he expected, if he thought Carlos would run in fear. Hell, Lando has barely even gone to gay clubs himself, dipped his toe into one in London one winter break with Alex and George and dragged Max Fewtrell to one for a themed night when he really just wanted to dance to the music. But that's been all.
New York is different. It's more.
They're out of place in their buttons ups and jeans, and especially their hats. There's men completely shirtless everywhere Lando looks. One even in some sort of leather harness.
The music is as loud as The Paddock but there's a real DJ meshing old Brittney Spears into some new Dua Lipa. Lando pulls the group to the bar to order shots.
"What did you get?" Alex cranes down to ask.
"Tequila," Lando says as the bartender gives them a plastic cup of lime wedges with the shots.
They throw the shots back, but Lando gets bumped as they take the limes, dropping his onto the floor.
"Fuck."
Lando looks up in time to watch Carlos suck on his. He's watching Lando, brow furrowed. Lando presses closer, takes the lime wedge from Carlos's mouth and puts it between his own lips.
Carlos's lips are still parted as he watches Lando suck on it. He slowly snakes a hand across the back of Lando's neck. When Lando removes the lime from his mouth, Carlos pulls him in and licks straight into his mouth.
It's hot, how open and frankly possessive Carlos will be in the club. They lose Alex and George when Chappell Roan gets played, Alex weaving through the crowd, on the cusp of dangerously drunk as George tries to keep him from knocking someone over. They don't mind though, not when Lando is dancing on Carlos with him nearly pinned to the wall at the back of the crowd. If it can even be considered dancing; really Lando is just rubbing his dick on Carlos while Carlos is groping his ass.
They last until Lando starts sucking on Carlos's earlobe, and then Carlos is shoving him across the club to the bathroom hallway. They hurry into a stall, disgustingly obvious with what they're doing. Carlos roughly gets Lando's dick out, already well on its way to hard, and drops to his knees.
Lando has to pull the collar of his shirt up into his mouth and bite it as he watches Carlos on his knees, hat backwards and eyes huge as he sucks Lando off. He doesn't notice at first—not until Carlos nearly makes him come by whining with his mouth stuffed full with Lando's cock—that Carlos is palming himself too, jerking his hips up into his own touch through his jeans.
At that, Lando has to snap his eyes shut. He just feels as Carlos sucks him off, so warm and wet, and he comes in Carlos's mouth while he's rubbing against his own hand, kneeling on the tile. Lando moans into his shirt, tongue dry against the material as he breathes through his nose.
Carlos turns and spits Lando's come into the toilet. Lando loosens his jaw and lets his shirt fall from it as he watches Carlos keep palming himself.
"Fuck, Carlos," Lando murmurs. He feels so weak he doesn't know if he can push off the wall of the stall.
Carlos grips himself hard through his jeans for a moment, then reaches to tuck Lando back into his own pants. Lando stares at the tent of Carlos's crotch, but he doesn't touch himself again. Instead, he stands and kisses Lando against the wall of the stall until someone knocks, yells at them for taking so long.
lol very smart wine choice! and that’s a long time to be breathing life into a sequel, I’m sure it feels great to have it posted 🥰 I hope you’re feeling proud of it!
if you haven’t answered these already, what inspired writing a sequel, and why inspired the name? (and sorry I read boabs as boobs every single time I see it)
This is legit the first time I’ve written a sequel to a long fic because even when I promised one for other fics in other fandoms, it never ended up happening. I think usually I finish my fic and that’s the end of the story to me, like I ended it where I did for a reason, because that was the story for me.
But given that Carlos and Lando in borderline are so young, there was a clear “what happens to them in the next chapter of their lives?” and I liked the idea that they navigate the rest of college well because they found a sort of homeostasis within the fraternity and their campus. But the real world is a different beast. Different pressures and expectations. A whole new chapter.
And when I realized that I could write them breaking up and doing exes to lovers (my favorite) I instantly started having ideas of how that would happen again and how they see one another again and how/when/if things rekindle. And I knew I could actually write a sequel this time.
Burial of a Burning Star came about because I was originally going to title it “We Buried Alive Something That Never Died” (a lyric from The Exit by Conan Gray) but it was soooo long so I was trying to think of something with the same sentiment and I decided to come up with something that followed the same formula for the title as Borderline of a Bad Idea (noun of an alliteration-descriptor noun) and came up with Burial of a Burning Star (and then I rewrote some of the metaphoric language in the fic to fit that)
I wrote the opening of the Borderline sequel for you <3
On the flight to the Maldives, Lando reminds himself no less then eight times that he loves his friend Max Verstappen. And that's why he is doing this: attending a five day, destination wedding where his ex will be also be in attendance.
Even with the other Max as his date--so he isn't showing up stag--he's nervous. Checking into the resort, taking quick showers and dressing again to head to fucking welcome drinks (Lando can't help but be sure most of the events listed on the wedding invite were the brides ideas cause if he knows one thing from the pics of Verstappen's bachelor party, it's that Max does not care about a theme or fashion and in fact, wants to just get plastered), he's nervous.
But the resort is gorgeous. Lando will cede that to the bride. They walk along the boardwalk between the pool and the beach, follow the signs to the Verstappen wedding, and end up in a massive, open cabana beside a private pool. Martin is already in the DJ booth above the decorative waterfall, and waiters are flitting between guests with trays of cocktails.
Lando takes one and downs it in one go.
"Bob," Max sighs, nursing his own as he looks at Lando's empty glass. "Seriously? It's been seven years."
"Fuck off," Lando says lightly. Max knows why he's here. Sure, he's friends with Verstappen too, has been on vacation with him and the bride-to-be, all holed up on Max's yacht for a weekend on the Tenerife Sea. But he is Lando's plus one, didn't receive an invite of his own, and that's because Lando fucking needs someone here for when he inevitably sees--
It's from across the pool, twenty meters of chlorinated water between them, that he spots Carlos.
Unfortunately, Lando's first thought is how good Carlos looks. Still. Always. It makes him feel the need to get another drink, even as his eyes can't stay away from Carlos. He's in all linen, tailored like he'd started wearing his clothes those first few years out of school, as he was breaking into his field and working his way up the corporate ladder.
Lando stares at Carlos long enough he knows he's risking Carlos seeing him. But he can't look away, stares intently enough, it takes a long moment for him to register the woman beside him, the women he only notices when she takes a half step closer, slides her hand onto his arm, and leans in to say something to him, lips close to his ear.
